Rolex stolen off wrist at knifepoint in McDonalds
Tough to watch this. On the positive side the guy gave it up without a fight and was not hurt

That's terrible. I've been to South Africa and I would not walk around with my Rolex. It's a beautiful but very dangerous place if you're not careful.

Being in the “Ive had a watch stolen off my wrist” club, this absolutely disgusts me. What comes around, goes around....

Everyone (the pedestrians) did the right thing, nothing! Not worth getting stabbed over any watch. Now, if they were beating the crap out of him, thats a different story. Let the cowards walk, get a vehicle description, and let the cops take over, file an insurance claim, get a new watch, and pick a better place to eat than mcd.....

I agree to not get stabbed over a watch. But I mean in this day and age of cell phones, no one took out a phone to make a call to the police. To have the balls to just walk into a public place in the middle of the day and just take his watch is pretty appalling. Those guys are probably going to hit more unsuspecting people and the police will probably do very little. It looks like they didn’t even try to run. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I spent three days in Johannesburg.
Airport, uber to Intercontinental. Three days in the hotel, hotel restaurants, hotel bar, hotel rooftop pool, connected high security luxury mall. Uber to airport. Beautiful country :) |

I think some people literally have no idea how beautiful SA is. I've seen a lot of the world and SA really really really impressed me.
To each his own and if you don't feel safe no problem. But don't act like you are traveling to some war-ridden region. Plenty of people are scared of traveling to Europe because of several attacks the past few years. People think you'll get robbed in plain sight in Barcelona, Naples or Paris because of what they hear. Go figure. Let fear dictate your life. |

OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg and Sandton City two of the most dangerous places for Rolex wearers in South Africa . Idyllic Cape Town ,MOST dangerous city in South Africa. Picked up my sister from OR Tambo ,visiting from New Zealand, three weeks ago and dropped her of this week . On BOTH occasions I was approached by "gentlemen" INSIDE the parking area at OR Tambo airport .. Foreigners would have been friendly and been caught ,locals have a way of dealing with them that makes them "go away hurriedly" . Beware ,when you leave OR Tambo ,you can be followed and robbed .When you leave OR Tambo ,you may be stopped by police officers ,usually looking for bribe money ... Do NOT count on the South African Police Services . If you plan to visit South Africa ,feel free to contact me by PM . Can give you advice about the do's and don't s I wear a watch from my collection everyday,my wife also . |

You hate to see people take what isn't theirs. So sorry for the guy. Hope he either got the watch back (not likely) or got another from his insurance, if he had any. Unfortunately, this happens everywhere in the world. You've got to know your surroundings and always be cautious.

It is a beautiful country, must see - Cape of Good Hope, Table Mountain, Kruger National Park, among many. I have been there for business and pleasure a few times. There are many things you take for granted here in the US that you should not do in SA or in many developing countries. For me, I would leave my luxury watch at home if I wish to have a headache free trip.

Was over there for a friends wedding a couple of years ago. Beautiful country, wore my SD. Had a great time, and the hospitality was 2nd to none.
Although when we travelled up to the Dragenbergs and down to the beach from Peitersmeritzberg. I must admit i felt safer in Afghanistan, at least there i have something we can't talk about here. Was an eye opener for the kids when out hosts issued Kitchen knifes out to us for a drive of maybe a mile to our hotel from their place at night. |

This is the very reason why I do not like to travel with my GMT 2. In fact, I just picked up a Breitling Galactic Unitime World Time for travel. Very good travel watch, recommended.
