I made someone very happy.
While I was checking out at Costco the other day I noticed that the guy in front of me was wearing a vintage Pepsi GMT. I said “Nice watch”. He responded that he had bought it 50 yrs ago when he was a soldier In Viet Nam. He said he had paid $400. for it. The. He said “It’s probably worth about $1500. now “. So I told him that I had some good news for him and informed him of it’s possible current value. He couldn’t believe it. I told him about the forum and he thanked me profusely. I think I made his day.

Wow. Yeah, you made his day. That watch could help him in many different ways now that he knows its true value.

What do you think the value would be? It's like an antiques roadshow episode?

A 1675? If it's original could be upwards of 11-12k

$400 50 years ago was a lot of money. I’d say that’s a couple thousand nowadays right?

You should have said, "You're right, it's worth $1500. But I'll give you $2000 for it."

I have a 1675 TT nipple dial excellent condition. What do you think that’s worth?

That's very cool! Had a similar experience in a pawn shop one time. Noticed a guy wearing a gilt dial Pepsi GMT with small GMT hand, all original. Started chatting with him about watches and he told me he had inherited it from his Uncle who had bought it in Vietnam from the PX. He told me he thought it was maybe worth a couple grand and also mentioned having the box and original receipt. I pulled out my phone and discreetly started showing him selling prices for gilt dial GMT Masters on Chrono24 and his jaw hit the floor. He was also very appreciative and had no idea what he had.

Last weekend, my wife and I went out for breakfast. An old guy came in wearing a Vietnam vet cap, sat by himself and ate his breakfast in quiet solitude. I could tell he was a local as the waitress called him by his first name. As I paid my check, I told the waitress to put his tab on mine. Hopefully, made his day a little nicer.

Was at a wedding, my friend wore his grampa's vintage GMT. I also made his day. I told him the possible value, to never sell it but I'd buy it at market price, when he is ready to sell. Then he made my day by letting me have 20 minutes with it.
