1st Grand Seiko Purchase

I have been on "the list" for a new sub since July and decided to pick up this GS SBGW231 in the meantime. I must say the hype around GS is real. I am blown away by the quality of this piece and really digging the 37MM size. Also, can't believe how cheap these are. There is no way prices stay this reasonable in five years. Anyone else just trying out GS due to the Rolex shortage?

Great looking piece. Congratulations. The crazy pricing and somewhat cutthroat world of vintage Rolex definitely pushed me deeper into vintage Grand Seiko. Never looked back.

I love this GS. So sleek, simple, and versatile. I think you picked well, let us know what you think after some wear!

I’m selling my 5296G Calatrava and will likely replace it with one of these. Grand Seiko is officially replacing Pateks in my collection.

That's awesome! I will say I do really love the yellow gold Calatravas (would have preferred this SBGW231 in yellow gold) and could see myself getting one someday.

The SA at the Beverly Hills GS boutique tells me the bulk of their sales are to Patek owners. I don’t know if it’s true, but that’s what I was told.

I doubted, this is only a way to praise their GS finishing is as good as pp.

HUGE GS fan. Exceptional quality at a very reasonable price. I drool over several pieces on a weekly basis. Nice pick up sir.

That is a beauty! Love it. I have turned into a huge GS fan over the last year and a half. Not so much because of the shortage, but because I realized there was life outside of Rolex. Started looking at GS and was blown away by the history, technical advancements, and the finishing. Wow that finishing. And then their high end quartz movements, wow.

I used to be a quartz snob.....I would never dare wear a quartz. What a fool I was. Honestly, I'd take a 9F quartz movement over a lot of the base cheap ETA types. I guess I have evolved in my watch game.

The way Rolex is going lately, and the type of people the brand is drawing as a customer base (people who are only buying to show off and "invest"), I'm turned off.

I have found new joy with Seiko and GS as the fan base is people who just love watches.

I hope GS remains a secret to the masses. We better stop talking about how great they are lol

You have great taste... that exact GS and that exact Rlex are the ones I would start with...I'm just not there yet. I'm kicking myself for passing up the Polar last year for a decent price... It seems the prices on those are climbing rapidly.

Beautiful watch! I love the matte cream dial. I own the sbgr061 and i’m Still thinking of this one. I love the patek 5196. Can’t afford it but think the similar hands on this might scratch that itch.
