Saw My First Deep Sea Today

I was at an AD here in Orlando this morning. They had the Deep Sea in the display case. I have to say it's an awesome watch.

There is only one thing wrong with it. The Oyster Bracelet is way to small for the 43 mm watch. That size bracelet looks great on the regular sub but on the 43 mm case Deep Sea it looks like the monster truck Big Foot with regular size 40 inch street tires.

I was more concerned about the height of the watch when i tried it on...it looked awful on my wrist but it is a stunning watch nonetheless and looks good on wristshots i have seen posted from many TRF members. It is the type of watch you really have to try on and see if it suits you nicely before you buy it.

No I'm happy with my Sub Date. The Deep Sea is an awesome watch though. If the bracelet was bigger and proportional with the rest of the watch. I may of taken the plunge. it is thick but sits nicely on the wrist. I'm a big guy so the watch didn't feel to heavy.

Funny you saw it here...when I was looking around for them they were saying there was a huge waiting list. Sign of the times I guess.

I have a small wrist and it looks very good, bought it two days ago and didn't take it off since then.
One stunning watch!

I am thinking about buying one but how big is your wrist?
Mines like 6.35 inch or so

This thread is about 2 years old, but the Deepsea hasn't gotten any smaller!

You should try it on, it's a top heavy, chunky watch, a 6.3" wrist seems too small to me, but try it on anyway. For your wrist a Sub C might be a better fit.

In reading posts regarding the DSSD, the watch seems to be a love/hate attractor.

The first pictures I saw of it, I knew I wanted it.

Three years later I saw my first one in person. Left the AD to have lunch, came back and bought it. That was a month ago.

Right now I can't think of ANY watch I'd rather have. How many other things (cars, houses....) can you say that about? So my TT Sub blue is retired.

The DSSD reminds me of how I thought my first Sub ('85) looked on my wrist.

I don't dislike the Deepsea, though I do poke fun at it sometimes, :).

For me, there were only 2 Rolexes I was interested in, the Deepsea and the SubSea. :). I chose the Sub and love it. But, if there weren't a Sub C, I'd still happily wear a Deepsea, faults and all.

But, the fellow with the 6.3" wrist might really look silly wearing a DS.

I agree. I tried it on when I bought my daytona and it is truely a monster. My wrist is way too small for a watch that big. Its like a brick on my wrist. If I ever bought that watch and wore it, I would turn into a one armed person.

I love the shape of the DSSD case. That is what's most intriguing about the watch. It doesn't look like a square.

The deep sea is stunning, but waay to thick and big for me. The thickness makes it look clunky on anything but a big arm, IMHO.

I have to say I agree.

This Rolex Deep Sea bracelet is a bit too small for the timepiece. But I am a newbie and my opinion is worth about as much as a fart in a hurricane!!

I only smell for a little while.

I agree that they could have made the bracelet a little thicker....Maybe 22mm tapering to 20. However, as a DSSD owner......even though it looks a little funny off the wrist, it really does look right once it is on the wrist. I had my friend put mine on and wear it for a bit, and I just couldn't get over how good the watch actually looks on a 7.25 inch wrist or bigger. STUNNINGLY good.

I agree also. Larger band would have been nice, but you get used to it. I've had my DSSD for about 6 months and use it as a daily wearer. Very happy with it, the size is no problem at all. Definately one of my favorites. The glidelock clasp is awesome, so easy to adjust. Best clasp out there in my opinion.

I have the Deep Sea for six month and i find it well balanced (Bracelet/Case)
I think Rolex wanted a larger size watch but without reaching Panerai or Audemars Offshore proportions.
If you are used to smaller watches you will feel a little uncomfortable about it at the beginning but after a few days this would become your new size standard.
