Hand Wound, Skeletonized Daytona From Artisans de Genève

Artisans de Genève released this new Daytona named La Blausee.

It's a skeletonized 116520 similar to their previous releases but this time they converted the Calibre 4130 to a manually wound movement!

Modified Rolex is always controversial but the movement conversion is definitely interesting. Thoughts?

As this is clearly not a Rolex production model moved to the non Rolex watch forum.

Hey Padi,

In the past, many threads regarding modified Rolex and Artisans de Geneve have been discussed on the Rolex General Discussion part of the forum.

Here are some examples:

So excuse my confusion.

I just got an email to pre-order this watch. Personally prefer a black bezel like their "La Barrichello" model. Been tempted to order this one after seeing what the La Barrichello is going for on CH24.

I agree. The forged carbon bezel on the "La Montoya" was the highlight for me.
You may have a point regarding the prices too. "La Barrichello" seems to be trading with more than a 100% premium. Although it is not cheap in any way, this retails for a little less than the Barrichello.

I definitely understand the temptation.

Normally I hate any modified watches but I really like these. Combines Rolex and haute horology. Beautiful watches but wouldn't drop the $ on one.

Never thought of it like that. It indeed does, especially judging by the details provided in the article. 200 Hours!

"Among the new parts, the handmade ultra-thin balance bridge and the barrel ratchet are especially worthy of attention. Last, the movement is sandblasted and given a nickel palladium finish, resulting in a unique colour and technical look. All in all, the modification of the movement takes over 200 hours of work to complete."

They are relatively expensive but as David stated above, they seem to appreciate fairly well.

Looks nice but not for me. I still prefer a "stock" Daytona

Given that this is was a Daytona whose 4130 movement was modified to remove the autowind mechanism, skeletonize the bridges, customize the dial and add a sapphire caseback, it still retains Rolex DNA.

So it is Rolex but highly modified.

I completely agree although it seems Padi disagrees with us.
They also added a custom blue ceramic bezel and brushed the case and the bracelet. It is an interesting take compared to the regular 116520.

The brushed case and bracelet looks great in my opinion. I'd love to see it on the 116500, I'm sure someone here has done it.

Love the back of the watch. Don't love the front of the watch. Skeletonized is not my style. I value readability.

Love the look, but the pushers just looks off. Would have been great if they didn't toy with the screw down pushers.

Thinning down the knurled part gives a slimmer profile. Perhaps another aspect of the overall slimming down philosophy.

Those don’t even look like they could be the same reference. Maybe the angle but a lot looks way off...

You’re right. Maybe they’ve also used an older, thinner midcase.

They talk about replacing the original screw-down pushers with ‘Millerighe’ pushers. Like the ones on the earlier Daytona's.

The slimming down idea seems fair but I also like the original pushers better.

Absolutely amazing. I just saw the WatchFinderCo. review of their other model the other day. Amazing pieces. I do not think this loses any integrity. This is a wild piece.

These companies could easily have 100% their own creations and watch manufacturing but instead they have to go the cheap route with the Rolex name for the easy marketing and quick sale.

I love it and would buy it at the right price. Very nice modification and I usually don't like any mods.
