Hey, ive been working alot lately and i want a new watch for my collection. im narrowed down to either a day date full yg 18038 or a two tone steel yg datejust. Im having a hard time deciding so maybe you can give me some pros and cons of both of them? Thanks

I’d go for the full yg if $$ isn’t a factor. The two tone date just to me is so common, it it just feels boring. Also, the heft of the full yg pres feels so damn good on the wrist!

Well money is always a factor i work for my money and im only 17 but i wanted the daydate for a couple of years ever since i got into watches amd its not like anyones buying this for me i work for 100% of it and i know it will last me a life time. Also in the future ill have other expenses so who know when ill be able to get it if not now. Ithe daydate i was offered was 11.3k i can probably get them down to around 10-10.5k .

The Day Date is a great watch but can’t be worn for all occasions. The Date Just can be a daily and for any occasion.
If you have other watches to rotate I would go for the 18038, it feels great on the wrist. |

My main watch right now is a breitling superocean 44 special . I think i could pull off the daydate as a casual watch so its a matter of what will i get more enjoyment out of

I would go yellow gold Day Date and maybe skip the gold bracelet and put it on a gator strap; not as flashy but much more interesting that the datejust.

Personally, I like either all steel or all gold, not a mix. Of course, it comes down to personal taste.
Aside from that, the Day Date is really nice, especially with the original "president" bracelet. Of course, you will need to pay more for a DD. |

If I could choose any 36mm for daily wear, I'd go WG D-D, and I'd buy with bracelet, switching to strap as the mood warrants. Two tone can be great, but make sure you get exactly what pleases you most: smooth bezel vs. faceted, oyster vs. jubilee, etc. I've noticed that not all two tone dial colors look good on straps. I have both and agree with the consensus: a D-D (especially mine with a champagne/gold dial) is not suitable for all occasions. My personal preference in two tone Datejust is the Wide-Boy 1601 with either silver or gray dial, both are spectacular and harmonize with all T-T bracelets, and most straps.

+1 Budget permitting, of course it’s great to have the DD bracelet option. DD ‘works’ as either casual or dressy on the bracelet as well. . |

not being disrespectful toward the datejust (I have one), but there is no question here. The Day Date beats the datejust in every way possible! Get the Day Date.

And if you can afford a full YG 18038, save up a few more pennies and get the much-more-affordable 16xx Datejust too. You have two wrists, don't you?

I can't dig the 1980's flashbacks with the TT. Go DD if you can afford it. Remember, there is a reason every AD is stocked full of TT DJs and it is not because they are in high demand.
