Import duty on preowned user manual into the U.K.

Hi,

Does anyone have experience on buying user manuals from international sellers, particularly buying from eBay from the U.K.?

I recently sold a few items on eBay and didn’t realise that I chose international postage which was the default option when listing items - posting internationally was via the global shopping programme which supposedly details all fees upfront to the buyer, but my first encounter was smooth and easy. When looking at vintage Explorer user manuals, I have the cost of the item and shipping cost, both at its current conversion rate, but no expected import fees. So I’m trying to find out upfront what the rules are for printed user manuals. The value of the manual I am interested in is £15.

Thanks all.

When I send books of any kind , including Rolex manuals, to the UK, I just write "printed matter" on the package and don't even fill out a customs label. I think all books are exempt from customs duty and VAT, whatever the value.

Books are not exempt. It's the value of the item not the type that qualifies it for duty and vat.

Zero vat or import duty on an item of £15 unless it is from the channel islands

You can set it as a gift.
Used printed material.

Customs officers cant value a manual to be 1 dollar or 1000.

.

as a (frequent) ebay buyer of Rolex documentation, when I see "global shopping programme" is used, I never bid ...

That's used from US and UK only.
