2 different types of Roman numerals on DD2

Dear all, can you please help shed some light on why the DD2 (218238) has two different types of Roman numerals, on the one I have (mat black dial) the Roman numerals are slightly larger than those I saw on the white or gold dials? Is it just me or they are little different?
thanks so much in advance!

I wasn't aware of different font sizes for the Romans on 218238. If you can get a closer picture of another 218238 with a different dial color, then you can compare. I can't tell too much from the attached photo.

The black dial sure looks bolder. I love Roman's and have a Wimbledon and they look bolder to me more so than the White or Azzurro dial. Maybe illusion as well.

I think they are different, bit like the arabics on the PM Daytonas.

I agree here. I love Roman's but they seem a bit out of place or weird on a 'racing dial'.

Hmmmm ...

I was convinced this was just an instance of a known optical illusion, and the white background simply made the Romans look smaller. (A light object against a dark background will look larger than vice versa - Cf. Galileo!)

But ... now I’m not so sure — Comparing the Romans’ size to the chapter rings on these two 218238s, they do seem to actually be larger on the black dial. Color me surprised!

No sweat. It does seem odd that they would make the black face markers larger, considering that the black background would make them look larger already. If they wanted both to appear to have the same proportions, I would have expected them to make the white face markers larger.

Thank you, that is why i chose this watch with that particular dial, the proportions and configurations of this DD2 appealed to me, it did not look so chunky like how so many ppl say about other DD2. The roman numerals fill the dial just right imho.

I've been looking at Champagne Dial DD2's and in some pictures the background of the Day and Date windows look white and in other pictures the background looks more Champagne. ]

Is this difference just in the composition of the photos or was there an actual change?

From what I know or seen, backgrounds of those should be white.

You would assume the same size from a strictly tooling and cost point of view but you’re right, they do appear larger, optical illusion or not

I could not find the black dial quickly on Rolex website, so I did this.

I still think it's optical illusion.

By the way... I would buy this dial!!! j/k
