Oyster Perpetual or Tudor Black bay GMT

Newbie here 👋🏻

Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts would be on this scenario...
So I am currently saving and will be saving for a few more years to come for new watch. I currently have a Tag Heuer 2000 Sport Coke bezel as my work/beater, an Omega Speedmaster Automatic 3513.50 as my evening/dress piece as its more polished than brushed in terms of finishing compared to my other two, and my weekend/sport watch is a Tudor Black bay Burgundy ETA that I adore. I would like to add a Rolex to my collection one day. Realistically I won’t be able to go much above £4k and will want to purchase new. Technically that leaves me looking at the OP range, more specifically OP39 and white dial. I do however have a desire to add a GMT to my collection also, but my budget wont stretch to a Rolex GMT MII or Exp II. So my question is..
Do I get the OP39 or if Tudor releases a new Polar or different bezel variant GMT (maybe in a 58 size case too) in the next few years do I get that?
I know it will be subjective to the individual but I am curious to hear your thoughts.

Thanks in advance 👍🏻

Guess it depends on how important the 2nd time zone feature is to you. Absolutely love my BB GMT. You already have a BB so might be cool to save for the OP.

Personally I'd go w/ the GMT. But no wrong answer either way.

Good luck,
dP

I have no use for a GMT so I would go with the OP but if you travel to other countries the GMT is the way to go.

No real use for a GMT just like the idea of a GMT and the fact its a different complication to that of what I already have in my collection plus its a bit more “interesting” than a time only piece.

Wait and save; sounds like your making a compromise.

Get the watch you want...you have many to keep yourself occupied for now.

Oyster Perpetual or Tudor Black bay GMT

I have a white OP39 and a 116710. Both amazing watches. Given the choice between a Tudor BB and an OP39, no contest for me. It would be the OP.

Justjay82 that OP looks great. Why would you choose the OP over a BB? Do you own both? Any pics side by side? 116710 is an awesome piece! Presumably it wins over your OP..

If you want a classy watch that goes everywhere and with everything get the OP. If you want a modern vintage marvel that has a GMT function so useful for travelers or for those who's relatives or business partners lives abroad then the Tudor GMT is the choice. Also be warned that the GMT will get too much attention. It's a head turner. I personally like it on the Siena leather strap that adds to its vintage look a lot.

Since you have years of savings left your mind my change several times. I love my BBGMT and I will keep it for life. I Even got rid of my Polar 216570 a few months after purchasing my BBGMT since it just didn't see any wrist time. While I love the look of the white dial OP, if I was going to have only one Rolex (PM excluded) it would have to be a DateJust.

I will also second that the BBGMT does receive a lot of attention. Most of which starts with "nice watch, is that a Rolex?". So if you're not prepared to explain how awesome a watch can be, without the Rolex name written on the dial, it might not be the watch for you

Either watch is a great choice.

Your Black Bay is very similar to the GMT so I personally would go towards the OP in your scenario

However, if the Black Bay is not a factor in your decision I would take the Tudor GMT every day of the week over an OP

I sold my Black Bay blue after I bought my GMT because I didn't see the need to have both

Depends on what speaks to you - the OP is pretty fantastic though

Thanks for all the responses!
Its very divided, I had a hunch this may be the case . I know they’re two entirely different beasts and aside from telling the time they serve different purposes in a way. My Rose Dial BB is a keeper as is my Speedy as they represent different milestones in my life. I definitely want a Rolex just not sure if I’m suggesting an OP as its the only Rolex realistically within my budget(Pepsi the real dream I guess). I could extend the time span I which I'm saving to increase the budget. However that raises a number of issues 1. I can very easily be swayed particularly if a rather divine Tudor GMT variant comes out within budget 2. My wife could collar me for a new kitchen etc.. 3. If I somehow survive the first two hurdles I may well be scuppered by a very lengthy waiting list, .

Now, just saying, and this is me but in reference to scenario #2, my “watch fund” is private. No one else’s business, including you know who.

I wouldn't buy a Rolex just because it fits in your budget. If you want a Rolex Pepsi, don't get an OP because I promise you, you will be selling it down the road and buying what you really want. If that is the watch you really want hold out until the finances are there. You may find however if you buy the Tudor GMT, you may very well wind up loving it so much that you will lose interest in buying a Rolex Pepsi, hard to say... I didn't help at all did I LOL

Neither. If you dream for the Pepsi GMT, just get that then (assuming you can patiently wait for one). Unless you buy either to hold you off knowing youll sell them to then get your dream piece.
