No discount for Sports Models

I will have some spare cash in the next couple of months and I've decided I fancy a GMTIIC.

On Saturday morning I visited an AD in Glasgow, (the same one I bought my DJ from 16 years ago) to see if I could get a look at a GMT in the flesh.

The female assistant was very polite and helpful and brought out a GMT for me to have a look at. What can I say, they look good on the web and the pictures I've seen on TRF, but OMG this is one beautiful piece of kit!

Anyway, she asked how long I had had my DJ and I told her I bought it from them 16 years ago. I said it needed a bit of work done as the crystal has a very small chip on the edge near the 4, not visible with the naked eye, but you can feel it if you run your fingernail around it. The bracelet has also taken a lot of abuse over the years and reckon it might actually need replaced as some of the links have actually worn flat from years and years of contact with my desk. She also asked when it was last serviced and I'm afraid it was about 14 or 15 years ago, but it still keeps excellent time and has never let me down. I said that I would probably bring it in for the work to be done later in the year.

So I tried on the GMT and played with the bezel and the bracelet, as you do, and then I asked her what kind of discount they would offer if I was paying cash. She immediately said that they couldn't offer any discount on any of the Sports models as Rolex had fixed their prices. She said she would go and check with the manager and came back and confirmed that this was correct, however, she did say that they may be able to come to some arrangement if I was going to bring in my DJ for a service etc..

I really wasn't too surprised as I have read on TRF that UK AD's are reluctant to give any discount. I might get a good deal on getting my DJ back to nearly new condition though.

Can't wait to get the GMTIIC, it is absolutely awesome!

You will love the GMTII-C. It is a fantastic watch and is keeps amazingly accurate time. Mine averages about +1 seconds a day or less.

Sounds like a holiday trip to another locale might be in order - the savings would pay for the trip!

Thanks Harvey, I'm weighing up a few options, but I might come back to you on this.

The IIc Is an awesome timepiece you will not be disappointed. Mine too keeps excellent time. I just check mine. I have not set it since last Friday and I am about a half second off. Even dropped it in the snow this weekend for a few minutes for some pictures.

Man a return customer 16 years later and no deal huh? I would watch out on the service though you may end up paying Big money that you did not expect too pay to have it serviced especially after 14+ years of no service. I would expect $1,000+ from what I have heard around this site.

Stein Diamonds on line grey dealer last I checked was $6,250.00 not sure what shipping would run to get it to you?

Good luck and check the forum for sellers.
