Pointless question for you re: part ex

Hi all,

As above, I know we see these sorts of questions on here often so I apologise in advance....just need to come back down to reality.

An 'opportunity' has been presented to me whereby I can get a SS Daytona C (new and unworn) in exchange for my SS Sub date + H.Moser & Cie white gold Venturer + a cash sum of circa £5,000.

My initial thoughts were absolutely not that's not a good deal at all...however I have started to get itchy fingers and cant work out if I'm crazy for even entertaining the idea.

Thoughts...?

I don’t know what the Moser is worth but this sounds like a terrible deal to me. The sub must be worth £8k, plus your £5k cash. So £13k without the Moser. This must be close to putting the cost of the Daytona at £23k+??

Could just be a classic case of FOMO Jonny.

I would take a giant step back and evaluate.

If you really want the daytona, pull the trigger. Also remember, when you do a trade, dealers have to make money on the stock(s) that they take in.

Run to the nearest A and E department and have your head examined.

I don't think this deal is anywhere close to being reasonable for you in terms of $$ but if you don't wear the Sub + Moser and have 5K lying around and just love the 500C, who am I to argue against it?!

Yes looking at the typical big watch buyers in the UK and looking at trade-in value/cash purchase value it works out as £19k or there abouts. Just reading this back confirms my insanity for even considering this...!

Yes I absolutely think it was that and only that. And I am hugely glad that I saw sense and didn't end up going ahead with it!

Haha - luckily it didn't get to that stage. Had I of pulled the trigger on the deal I dare say that I would have been writing this from A&E.

That's the insane thing - I do wear both regularly and love them. As previous have stated - this was just a moment of madness....or a temporary mid-life crisis perhaps! ;)

Anyhow, thank you for all your comments. Helpful as always.

Regards,
Jonny

Well why do you want the Daytona? I always go to function first. Do you need a date? Do you care if the watch is legible? Do you care that you are paying far over MSRP to get a watch? Consider these first and then consider it. I have had two daytonas an speak from experience, the Daytona is about the most overhyped watch and in my opinion overrated in my 30+ years of collecting.

The moser is the question mark, small mkt for those although great manufacturer. My view is the heart wants what it wants. Maybe 2-3k? Just to make myself feel a little better.

I would absolutely not do this. The Daytona is nice, but not that nice. I'd never pay much over MSRP for one.

I'm not a fan of H.Moser, so for me I'd have no issues with unloading.

I'd want to know what the cash price of the Daytona is to properly evaluate the offer.

Didn't really get enough information to value this. If a new Daytona on the secondary market is $23K US or £17.3K then you are adding £5K with a balance of one sub and one H moser. What do you feel your sub the H. moser are worth? Sounds like this deal could be undervaluing your trade ins. Go back and ask for increased value on the trade ins, and lower on the cash, and maybe you can get there. Also take the position of the re seller, a moser venturer is an expensive piece , but I don't know how long it would take to sell such a piece, so you pay for that by getting less in trade.

If you look at MSRP [ I know Daytona is not to be had ... but ..] it's a ridiculous deal
Factor in the " Crazy" factoid then anything is possible

you have 2 great watches & 5000 in pocket - I'd pass for sure .. Daytona is the Current craze , very nice for sure & worth waiting for ...
From an AD - And by the time they become available you may not be interested any longer

Don't walk, run away from this. Sounds like they are scamming you AND asking you to pay 5000 pounds for the privilege. Shocking. What is so special about the SS Daytona anyway?
