My Coke insert is from the later models. I think these darker, burgundy inserts didn't come before 2006 or so.

I have my own lighting setup. Lightbox made of transparent plastic. Six LED lamps around the box and sometimes I use white paper to soften the lighting (when necessary).

I'm a real estate agent and a professional photographer. When you're shooting houses and real estate camera means a LOT. But when you're shooting watches... well not THAT much. Any decent camera will do. It's all about finding the proper lighting setup.

I've gotten some very good shots with cheap cameras. This, for example has been shot with a $50 Canon PowerShot.

Your advice reinforces what I've slowly been learning through trial and error. Lighting and glare are the biggest challenges. I have a Nikon dslr and iphone. If I get the lighting right, my iphone pics can look way better than my Nikon pics.
I bought a tiny photobooth/lightbox but am thinking more and more about building my own lightbox.
Did you come up with your set up all by yourself, or did you find ideas/plans online?
There's so much out there, it's time consuming to filter through all the plans that wouldn't work for my application (watches).

The main purpose is to filter the light correctly and diffuse it so that the watch will not over/underexposed to light. Just find the correct balance.

You can try using a white A4 paper sheet around the lamps, whatever. When you find the correct balance you won't get much noise.

Of course it takes a lot of practice and trial & error. But that's how it is with everything.

PS: I used a plastic white semi-transparent flower pot as a lightbox and lamps around it. It was perfect. Haha.
