Moment of weakness....
So, my AD calls me this morning and tells me that he's got another V-serial SD if I want it......bare in mind that I already have an M-SD which I wear daily and a V-SD safe queen...
I'm VERY tempted to purchase the second one, but it will just sit in the safe and not see the light of day.....my emotional side says BUY IT NOW!! It just looks so good sitting in the pretty green box waiting to go to a new home and is a 'good' investment....then the PRUDENT side of me says, you've already got 2, and the V won't be worth more then the M in YOUR lifetime!!! What do I do??? Help - Padi, TempoKing, Tools, Mike......reason with me! Also, I should mention that I want a IIc this year as well!!! Damn Rolex...damn them to hell!!! |

I don't personally think the V serials will be worth a penny more than other serial models so I have no idea what you are talking about. The thought of buying a Rolex as a investment is absolutely crazy to me, especially one that has been mass produced for so many years with no changes. Were does this thought process come from that a serial number will make any difference to collectors 50 years down the road.

i dont know how anyone could really believe that a rolex watch is a good investment.. maybe if you keep telling yourself it, you will believe it.

Just to set the record straight I did not buy mine as an investment. I bought it to wear it as my daily wearer. However I did give some consideration to resale value. An Omega or Tag do not seem to hold their resale value like a Rolex does. I also thought my son would one day have a cool story about how dad has had this watch ever since I can remember. |

Even Mardona doesn't think you should have 3 of the exact same watches :)
Buy what makes you happy. I think that good ol' GMT-IIc is a good idea if you're considering that. It's nice that your AD actually called you. What about getting a Deep Sea? Ya know..to change it up a bit |

If you have the coin to toss down and put something like this away do it. If you really do not and it will hinder the IIc purchase stay far away. I have the IIc and would not ever think of buying another watch. But the GMT was my grail watch and is my daily wearer. My OLD 1675 sits now and will forever be locked away. Well for the next 9 years until my son turns 18. maybe…
I never did understand having many of the same watch. I once saw a guy who had like 40 vintage Pepsi’s? I understand collecting but do you really NEED 40 of the same old watch? Bottom line it is your money you will know what do with it. Good luck and keep us posted. |

I would think the Subs in general would be a poor investment, there are some out there the Reds the early non-guards and of course the Comex. But otherwise there are just a lot of them in the grey market and used market. That said I can see collecting different Subs for one's watch collection, today that would be a Greenie, TT Blue, TT Black, SS, and 18Kt Blue. None are a very good investment. My used 18Kt Sub has increased in retail value by about 1.5k in five years, to an AD or Grey market dealer it would have about about a 3K less value in trade-in value then I paid for it.

Thank you ALL for the reality check!
I'll pass on the SECOND V-SD and get myself a GMT IIc.....although I'm on the list for the new SS Sub when it comes out next year (I expect). Thanks! Brett |
