Dj 15037
I made a mistake in the thread title: this is a perpetual date and not a Datejust. The reference number is 15037.
I am looking at this one from 1986. Please share your observations. The watch loses 4 seconds in a 24 period. It is offered by an authorized dealer who replaced the acrylic crystal and polished the case. |

It's not possible to be definitive based on those photos, but I suspect that the dial and hands are service items, possibly from the late 90s. Not saying this is a deal-breaker, but just something you may want to investigate if it matters to you.

Does this photo tell us anything about the dial and hands... being service items?
Thank you!!! |

In the last 24 hour period the watch lost 7 seconds. :(

Based on the photos, I'm not feeling that the lume on dial and hands is tritium from 1986.

looks like replaced hands and refinished dial, otherwise not a bad 14k gold date

Thank you, Chris.
I am wondering what degree of time-keeping accuracy I can reasonably expect from this watch. This 15037 loses about 8 seconds in a 24 hour period. Is this too far off for this vintage 1986 watch or still within an acceptable range? |

Most likely, if the watch has been recently serviced, it could be regulated to have a smaller delta over 24 hours in a single position. However, timekeeping is much more complicated than simply measuring the accuracy in a single position before and after 24 hours. I suggest reading some articles about wristwatch movement accuracy, positional variation, isochronism, etc., and you will better understand the nuances involved.

I am trying to ascertain the approximate market value of this watch. Is $4000 US a good estimate?

To clarify, I hear you saying that discussions of market value are off topic in this forum.
Am I right? I think I will purchase this watch for the simple reason that I like it. |

Is the Rolex 15037 not a sought after watch?

I found this article in Forbes https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.forb...ket-guide/amp/
“If you are looking to score a gold timepiece without having to break the bank, the vintage market is your best bet. Rolex introduced the Date Reference 15037 during the 1980s, featuring a 14 karat yellow gold case, crown, and caseback. Gold means this timepiece will fit in swimmingly at formal events, but what I like most is that the 33 millimeter case ensures the wristwatch remains elegant, not loud” |

Does the movement inside the 15037 have a slipping clutch mechanism which prevents overwinding of the watch?
