Rose gold finish question

Hi all,

Has anyone experienced the rose gold colour changing over time? I have a 26331 on a strap, and I was just into a boutique and it looked like my watch was much lighter in colour compared to the new 26331 on display. Curious if anyone else has had a similar experience, I do wear my watch quite often.

Thanks!

If anything the copper in rose gold should get darker as it oxidizes over time.. Maybe it was the lighting/angles, or maybe because AP doesn't refine their own gold like Rolex, there may be a slight inconsistency..

Yes rose gold will change over time as the copper oxidizes.

Yes my offshore rose ceramic, has changed and got darker as others have mentioned, apparently AP can refinish it again when you have the watch serviced.

I personally would never refinish gold unless it's badly damaged. They'd need to remove a layer of gold off the watch, not worth it IMO

LOL! Yes that's how I noticed it. I was wearing my RG ROO at a recent visit to the AP Boutique and compared it to the new RG offerings. To be honest the slightly darker color looks better to my eye

I would have thought like with Rolex's everose, there must be some platinum or palladium in the mix to stop any discolouring these days.

Color-change can be lessened by different amounts of the rare "Platinum group" metals (Platinum, Palladium, as two examples) but IMHO the Copper amount is substantial and will oxidize to some extent over time. It is chemistry 101.
