So A Man Walks Into an AD, . . .

I decided to drop by my local AD today to see what is new and exciting in the world of retail jewelry. As soon as I walked in, the manager warmly greeted me and in an almost gleeful manner said something to the effect of, "I have something you want." He then goes on to tell me that he has a white faced SS Daytona in the back which I could have. This was the first time I was ever offered a Daytona. Being addicted to this forum, I am well aware that SS daytonas are popping up all over (at least in the States). As a result, I wasn't taken back by his pronouncement, but I knew I was going to be facing a dilemma.

So there I was sitting at his Rolex counter, playing with the Daytona (it was the first time I have had the pleasure of "test driving" one) and I noticed that he had a Milgauss LV in the case. Also a first for me to see and play with! In conversation, I asked him what he thought about the DSSD. He responded by pointing out the he had one on display. I asked him to please break that one out too. Another first for me.

Let me tell, you , with the GMTII CC (which I had been wearing on my wrist) alternating wrist time with the Daytona, DSSD and a Milgauss, it was an extremely pleasant experience. The four made a very nice stainless steel quartet. Very nice indeed.

Then he says, how about I make up a package on all three? I think my jaw dropped and I gulped. My dilemma had now became even more torturous. He said he'd give me until tomorrow to make a decision on the Daytona, before he offered it to anyone else.

Please keep in mind that he did not call me to tell me about the Daytona. He had my phone number (unless he had lost it or forgot I existed - I did buy three Rolexes from them in the last 12 months). Only by happenstance did I ventured into his shop, and although all the stickers appeared to be on the watch, I could tell I was not the first person to have played with the watch. Form this I concluded that this hotcake must have been chilling in the back for at least a little while.

So, dear friends, now I must face my dilemma. I guess I could afford the watches, buying one or all three will not deplete my cash position in any major way. However, I do feel that it is kind of extravagance and maybe over an indulgence, especially in these tough times.

May I pose a few questions? At what price do you think it would be "prudent" (if it ever is prudent) to buy these babies? What price do you think is would a good deal? For each or for the trio? Am I crazy to even think about it? Am I craze to ask for for everyone's opinions? I would sincerely appreciate your input.

Oh, btw, in case the manager is reading this right now: Please give me your best deal, I need all the motivation you can give me. This is a tough decision for me!

Since you said you have the money, I guess it comes down to:
1. The deal he gives you (tough to say since they're popular, hardish to find) and
2. Where do you go next after getting 3 semi-grail models?

I would anticipate for the bulk purchase they would give you 10% off? At least?

I think you're absolutely right. It would be totally self-indulgent to take all three. Therefore you should buy them and send me one.

Wow, that is a dilemma indeed. If you're seriously thinking of getting all three, I'd imagine that a 15-20% discount would be fair!

Push them for it. They obviously want to sell them or he wouldn't be asking you to buy all three.

Make them throw in all kinds of free stuff too. Even crap you don't want.

I would tell him 25% off, and you will pay cash. he wont turn down the chance to sell 3 rolex in one shot.

If not you could just buy the daytona. After all ....now you will have 4.

1. Yes if you can easily afford them as you say.

2. Yes only if you get AT LEAST 15% off

3. If all of the above, BUY THEM!

I DID! And I plan on retrieving those bad boys today! I got a little over 22% off the three. Can I "easily" afford them? Not to sure what that means. Not easily, as in $20K is chump change for me. But spending that amount of money will not change my standard of living. Thanks for your interest!

Wow, I wish my local AD had all three of those watches in stock !
If that were me, and I could comfortably afford all 3, I'd get all 3 at the blink of en eye.

Brian, of course the choices are yours to make but if he offered 20% off list on the three watches or on any one of the three then maybe I would consider purchasing. Gee, it's fun spending your money!!!

I haven't spent a nickel yet! I think these are the suggested retail:

Daytona: $9,250
LV Milgauss $6,395
DSSD: $8,950

Total: $24,595

20% would be nice. Hmmmm

Last I knew the MG GBV was $6575, not $7,495. Was there a price increase?

This seems like a nice problem to have In my opinion if you do go for the "Three-Pack" they should give you one hell of an awesome deal. And if you just choose to go for the daytona..well they should still give you an awesome deal.

If it were me, and i could afford the three. I would DEFINITLEY go for it

Thanks - nice sentiments. I'm not a rich guy, but I do have some money in the bank. $20G is not going to change much in my life, unless I feel guilty about it. I mean, it is hard to make money right now. I'm happy that I am able to pay my bills. But it's not like I socking money away these days. So I find it a bit hard to even consider to indulge like this.

Thanks again.

The AD won't lose any money with a 20% discount, and he needs the cash flow.

Do him a favor.

Amen, I heard that.

I am by no means rich but am doing a few things around the house to keep a few smaller local businesses busy. Also to all the Californians out there. Why not go by a Maglite they are made in Ontario, Ca. I just bought another… every little thing you buy that is made in your home town will help out.
