16570 V-Series no lug chamfers

Please advise!

Is it normal for 2013 ( date on the card) 16570 to miss chamfers on the lugs. Has it been over-polished.

Thank you!

It looked like one of the lugs was thinner indicating over polishing to “grind out” some deep scratch but after reviewing all the pics again, it could just be the angle of the pic which gave me that impression.

It’s not as bad as I thought and take back my initial comment.

How can you tell it's been "over polished"? I've handled a fair number of Rolex watches and, unless blatantly obvious, I find it very difficult to tell.

Peter, I'd go further to say there is a percentage here who will always give a extremely negative review to sound authoritative. In general in doing so they do the exact opposite and only show their ignorance. Personally I think it's a nice looking example, fwiw.

I agree with this. OP, ignore comments and just enjoy the watch! It looks really good.

This is my 2000 Polar. I believe it has had a light polish but you can still identify the chamfer on the outer edge.

Thank you, all! I was not sure if I should be worried about it and return the watch.

My older 16570 (2005) has the chamfers. As this one is 2013 and has many of the details of the 6 digit ones I decided that it is normal but then I was looking at the lugs and they seemed thinner ( not sure if it is true or it is just me)

My old one

And ads I found of unpolished v series 16570

All 16570 cases had chamfers. Mild or not, they've always been the same.

FWIW, I only mentioned that it was polished, which it was. I'm not going down the rabbit hole of "over" or not. That's up to the buyer. It's a nice watch.

This is incorrect, IMHO. Check out photos of a stickered NOS no-holes 16570. No real chamfers to speak of, which is typical of no-holes five digit ‘T’ cases.

Photos? I've seen them in person. They've all had chamfers. That's said from experience. They're mild but they're there.

The chamfers were prominent and rather wide in the 5-digit cases with drilled lug holes (and a bit more pronounced in this order: Sub > GMT > Explorer). All no-holes cases have very little chamfering (not easily noticeable, and depends on the angle).

Your 2013 is polished (sharpness of the 2 o'clock lug seems softer than the 22 o'clock lug in the first picture) but it's not bad at all.

I’d wear it. Even if it had never been polished before, you will likely polish it at some point. Unless you plan to wear it 30 years with no polish, at some point, you would have removed the champhers with a polish.

When you are ready, someone like Rolliworks can easily reapply the champhers. I have seen countless examples of their work.

At my stage in the hobby, I am less concerned with things like this.

I think it looks great and it’s definitely not over polished from what I can see. On another thread people said some watch was over polished because the right lug was thinner than the left. Ahhh, ok. That’s how it left the factory chief.
You can always have some chamfering added. It would be easy for a skilled repair tech.

Looks great to me and if it was refinished it was done well.

By the end of production the chamfers were basically non existent. They become less and less pronounced as production went on. They're very obvious on the earlier 5 digits.

I strongly suggest that anyone that wonders whether a watch has been “overpolished”, take it to a qualified watchmaker, rather than asking random people on this site.

Many of us have no real knowledge of the subject and variations among the year of production and camera angle can make a big difference.

I certainly wouldn’t call this watch over polished at all. Sure it’s been polished, but not overly so. I think LAWW could easily add them back if it really bothered you

That model never had pronounced chamfers. I suspect the people saying it's overpolished are comparing it to the wrong watches. Looks fine to me.
