The Rolex dealer, not the one I purchased from 33 yrs ago, sent it to Rolex NY to have it done after it stopped. It looks great. I told them not to polish the case and bracelet and they followed my direction. The acrylic crystal was replaced with one identical to the original with angled edge, not rounded. Crown was dented and replaced. Also hands for lumin.

Watch was SS Rolex Oyster Perpetual.

Theorys why it lasted so long without service are that it had no complications such as date and that I never wound it using the crown but gently wound it by swinging it gently with wrist motion. Nor did I wear it in the shower, something that some do that puzzles me. I am not sure whether they are kidding.

Service cost about $950, which is about what I paid for the watch originally.

IMHO you were very lucky to get away with no replacement movement parts, and would have made no difference whatsoever if you had wound your watch or if you did wear it in the shower.And with all acrylic crystal watches they are always replaced at service,crown tubes are always replaced to, plus crowns if needed.

Sounds cool, let’s see some pictures. Not sure why you’re confused about people wearing their watches in the shower, it’s the perfect time to give the bracelet a bit of a clean to prevent/slow down bracelet stretch.

33 years is super!

Price is really good too! In my country even a single overhaul cleaning is 800 Euros which does not even include new mainspring.

What other parts were changed? I am sure due to the friction there should have been metal dust and worn parts

All full RSC service includes mainspring change world wide as part of service plus barrel .Mainsprings are not expensive and even Rolex dont make there own they are outsourced made by Schwab-Feller AG,plus movement bearing and cap jewel bearings,crystals,spring-bars,and a firm called Aiguilles makes all the watch hands for all models.

My local RSC quoted me 800 euros for the overhaul which would not include any part. The price only includes cleaning and lubrication of parts, installation, gasket replacements, time keeping and water resistance tests.

Another question, if you go for overhaul to an independent who is not authorized by Rolex, will you be able to go for your next overhaul after 5 years to RSC in Swiss? Or will the RSC not accept to service the watch as it has been serviced by an independent?

Anyone with the slightest common sense, how would any RSC know it had been serviced by any independent.There is no magic genie in the case to say its been opened, and if any non Rolex parts were used they would be replaced when serviced by any RSC. Now if the watch was still under warranty and was serviced by a unauthorised watchmaker, the warranty would be void, again just common sense.Rolex will service any genuine Rolex watch thats serviceable they dont need to know or care what the watches history was.

First thank you very much for the quick and straight answers.

But RSC will know if the watch has been serviced or not I think. Because if the parts were cleaned before they will shine and there will be oil everywhere inside the watch. I do not know much about watches techniques, I am learning :)

Guess that you would have passed on the watch originally, had the seller informed that you could expect to pay an amount equal to MRSP just have it serviced

Good to know she's back and running as new.
By the way, wounding a watch does not cause any harm to a watch, all the contrary. Movement won't operate optimally if not wound. Now, How you wind it does make a difference. Must be when watch in hand not on wrist in order not to risk bending the mechanism also better to be done gently. Nothing more rewarding than winding a mechanical watch.

I had a conversation with a microchip salesman yesterday who said he’d bought his Sub 32 years ago for $1200. He said he had it serviced once since he’d bought it. It looked great. Hard to believe it was that old.
