Bicycling

Today it was in the 60's here outside of Chicago so I went for my first ride of the season. The wind was tough but I got in a medium length ride. It will take me about 700 to 800 miles to get my legs in shape but once I do look out!!!
All I can say is bring on the warm weather and riding for 4-6 hours a day.

Good for you, Leo. I used to ride a lot before we had kids - averaged 100 miles a week during the summer. Now, if I'm lucky I'll get out for a short jaunt with the baby in the bike trailer.... never can go very far, but pulling the extra weight helps give a little workout anyhow.

Do you ride with a group, or go solo?

I mainly ride solo but 3-4 times a week I ride with a friend. When it gets to be summer I'm out twice a day for between 4-6 hours per day. I like going out by myself because it gives me time to meditate and I can go at my own pace!!!

Dan, I agree I really like riding outside over an indoor trainer. As for therapy, I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis so cycling is great for my legs and upper body. My major problem is its very hard on my wrists(supporting my upper body weight). My right wrist and thumb are permanently dislocated so I do get quite a bit of pain riding!!!

I was talking about mental therapy. But I know what you mean, cycling is very good on the joints. YOU KNOW WHAT JOINTS I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!!!

I wish you well in your motivation to become a cycling dude

I too have the desire to get back into a proper training regime as I am now very overweight and unfit.

I think I will start off with just a little every day, no requirements for a miniumum time, if I do that I am likely to become demotivated. Just ride a little very day, even 10 minutes, and go from there.

I agree, anytime you can get out to exercise is excellent. I start out the season slowly. Yesterday, I rode 14 miles and will continue at 12-14 miles(per day) for the first week. Then each week after that I will increase my mileage by 10-15%. After about 5-6 weeks at this pace I will then start riding twice a day!!!

You can certainly do it.

I ride as well.

Trying to enjoy it before we get the 100 degree summers.

I ride all year long, either inside or out. Yesterday was 65 degrees and sunny. What a great ride with many others out smiling from ear to ear. I've been lucky to find more than a few nice days to get out. A bad ride outside beats the best inside ride by miles dummy::[pun intended]

Si, bicycling is great therapy for whatever ails you(Dan=mental). The weather here is not very good in the early spring(today is rain and 40F) but I do get out when I can. And winter is brutal on the roads, the pot holes even have pot holes!!!
