PM Daytona Availability

I feel like availability of PM Daytonas has slowly been drying up, and today I noticed on Watchrecon that only a single 116505 was available for sale (there are often a handful) and its the less desirable model with the diamond markers.

I've been waiting a few months for the 116505 with black dial. Curious if others have noticed this as well?

Maybe collectors are pulling the trigger on pre-owned inventory at prices that don't necessarily reflect the raise in MSRP?

Your suspicion is correct. I spoke with my AD the other day and he said the situation with Rolex availability is getting worse, not better.

My AD told me last week that all Daytona’s are allocation pieces now.
I asked for a blue dial WG 116509 and was lucky to receive it in 3 weeks. I think it was lucky timing, and a good relationship. She tells me they only see that particular piece about twice a year.

That’s a gorgeous piece, I’ve seen it in the metal, congrats man. Did you pay 2019 retail?

When I asked it was 19 pricing.
When I received, I paid 2020 price. I did ask if it was sitting in the back. I was told it just came in the latest shipment. Of course there is no way of knowing.
Nothing can be done anyway, I either wanted it or not, and I wanted it so I paid the RRP.

At least you had a short wait. I’m in the same
Boat, I requested the watch and placed a deposit in 2019, and now I’m going to be paying the 2020 price when it lands here...

How many people walk in an buy 35k-45k watches? Slim to none. It’s not over demand that’s drying up supply. That’s a lot of money collecting dust if they can’t move the watch. Its better to order then hold inventory.

They may be reducing supply, but I think there’s more demand for these pieces than you’re giving credit for.

There does seem to be a genuine interest in PM Daytona's that is somewhat unusual but that is where the market trend setters are leading us at the moment.

I guess depends on which market as well. In US East Coast and Caribbean Islands I frequently see Full Gold and Platinum Daytonas. In Southeast Asia they won’t last more than 2 hours in the display case.

That’s interesting. Do they command a premium on the grey market there?

Well, definitely no discount at ADs at all, lucky if you can get it. Whereas in US I was offered 20% off a full gold SkyD and 15% off a Platona last October

I saw 3 platinum Daytonas and one full Rosegold with black dial around DC last October.

I guess they don’t move as fast, they even offered discount.

My AD tells me that they have been trying for months get a platinum for a VIP and they can’t get it.

Different scenarios play out in different places.

Was the black dial 116505 at Tourneau? If so, they definitely weren’t offering a discount, as I inquired about the same watch.

Yes, it was at Tourneau. No discount on the RG black dial.

The discount was offered on the Platonas. And also on a Full gold SkyD.

I wonder how many people look at the market price of the 500 (22-30k) and think for only a few grand more, I can have a full pm piece.

Maybe that was Rolex’s plan all along ...

I think it’s difficult not to at least consider that logic. I know I did. I love my steel pieces, but nothing feels like PM on the wrist to me.

If you're ok with "like new" there are 285 of them on Chrono24 right now. Prices vary.

I’d argue that there might be something wrong with anyone who didn’t at least ask themselves this question

I’m waiting on a 116508 YG green dial. My AD told me they have never even seen one and my name is on the incoming sometime this year. That’s all the info I have.

I’m on the list for that too, but not expecting anytime soon, so figure I have time.

I find it hard to believe they’ve never seen one, but I hope you get yours soon. It’s a special watch - the green and YG are so quintessential Rolex, and just sing together.
