Surge in Daytona inventory

I periodically check Bob's Watches to keep up on prices and availability. Last Friday, the Daytona inventory was 31, today it's 51. Many are ceramic stainless models. Are people dumping these for fear of a price drop? Or is Bob's pulling them out of "the back" to move them?

Call them and ask, then report back here

Interesting. I'm going to say a combination of both.. Cant imagine people continuing to pay this kind of money for the 500c. Have to believe that at some point that segment of the market willing to do so is fulfilled, leaving a larger number of pieces unsold at that price point.

$1M in Daytonas. That's a lot of inventory for just one reference. It's even kind of scary from a business standpoint. Hit by a recession, I can see many of those big grey dealers going under. Before you know it, you'll be able to pick up Daytonas from Bob's for $8k :)

I can’t imagine it is/was sitting in the case waiting for a walk-in customer. Ben Bridge in general is a tough place to get anything “hot” from.

You sure it wasn't a white gold example saw? Or was it a stainless in the pre-owned section?

A brand new, SS Daytona sitting in an AD case is wildy unusal.

No. That was Two Tone with White Dial in the window case not SS.

I can confirm this as of yesterday.

I think maybe its a little of both. There is only so much people will pay for a SS reference and the grey secondary market knows it now.

Hence the reason Bob is no longer taking BLNRs on the jubilee.

The majority of the SS I see on Bob's Watches is the SS 116520 (more white dials than black) and a handful Ceramic SS, all in black.

Doesn't seem like any indications to me considering they are one of the larger grey's out there.

Even when availability normalises, if it ever does again, the Daytona will continue to be unavailable.

51 Daytonas is a lot of money tied up in inventory. Nobody lowering prices yet.

I called Ben Bridge in Riverside and spoke to them. The person I spoke to said there was no SS Daytona available, and if there was it would never have hit the case as their list of previous customers for one is a mile long.

I couldn’t imagine sitting on a million dollars worth of inventory for one model. I guess if his overhead is low than he’ll continue to sit on it until there’s a reason to move it for a lower price

732 Daytona C's on C24 compared to 726 last month so no surge.

Reality is there are plenty out there, the grays were cutting off supply. But the same happened to the 116520, after several year’s (close to 10-12 years into the production cycle they began to be available. I got mine at MSRP, just had to be patient. The hype is wearing off and hell seiko is putting ceramic on their watches now that sell for under 700 bucks, so people are likely coming to their senses that the ceramic material is nothing special and is rather cheap material slapped on the same model as before.
