ND vs DJ vs YM

agonizing over this decision. i can only get one and cannot make up my mind.’

which would you choose?

rolex no date sub
white dial date just 41 fluted bezel
rhodium dial yachtmaster

wear suits during the week, jeans on the weekend.

sub date - clean simple, workhouse, easy glide. maybe the all black dial not versatile

date just - dressy awesome for work, white does with everything. not very versatile for weekends

yachtmaster - could be compromise sad solve both. Or could solve neither problem - concerned about grey and legibility.

Exactly this.
Still, very hard to go wrong in choosing a sub.

This exactly.

Many will recommend the Sub because it's iconic, but it really doesn't dress up well. It's a tool watch completely. I realize some people feel comfortable wearing a sub with a suit (or, even more ghastly, with Black Tie), but that's a misstep.

If you can wear a sub with a tux you can wear a sub
with a suit ...

Sub all the way... No contest!
One and done...

Maybe none of the three is what you are after? For me, it’s an easy choice, as these are quite different choices.

I voted DJ, but I’d go with a rhodium or blue dial

I’d pick a sub; but a good alternative is a datejust in a sports type configuration. Like oyster bracelet and sticks.

For a one and only I'd go DJ although myself I prefer the look of the smooth bezel on oyster, that would also be a real GADA piece. If you offer to pre pay your AD may order a DJ for you to your specs. I did just that a year ago for my 41and it took 4 weeks to the day to show up. Just saying don't feel like you have to settle for something if your not 100%

No wrong choice, I vote YM. They are rarely seen, versatile, and that rhodium dial is beautiful. The blue dial YM is too.

YM for me. It is not a black bezel sub and either it is a DJ look-a-like. it is different and can dress up/down nicely. It wears like a 5 digit and is very comfortable to wear. The newest model has the 72 hour reserve and the case is different than the previous generation.

I have the new YM1 and absolutely love it. But are you sure that the case is different from the prior model?

Another for the Yachtmaster, dressy enough to wear with a suit, tool enough to wear dress down with jeans. And it’s thinner than a sub and has lugs more like the five digit subs, not the current sub’s thick maxi lugs. The YM does have polished center links that will eventually shows micro scratches but then so does the DJ.

For a daily I would need a date, for the most versatile that would be date just 41 with rhodium dial, fluted on oyster bracelet. It will dress up or down and be supple versatile. The Rhodium will go with any color outfit you want to wear.

wouldnt recommend wearing a sub with a suit though. (that was my choice as you already know) If i wear a shirt/jacket/suit im wearing my calibre de cartier not my sub or yachtmaster.

rhodium dial yachtmaster

yachtmaster - could be compromise sad solve both. Or could solve neither problem - concerned about grey and legibility.

These are all very different watches - Sub and YM are sports and the DJ is a dress watch.

Someone said it above, the Sub doesn’t do well for formal occasions. It looks great and some can carry it off very well but not everyone.

Also, it’s a Sub. There’s another one with a date that’s the Sub Date.

Cheers

The Submariner hands down. It covers you on every base and has the Glide lock clasp so you get a perfect fit every time. All three watches are sport watches and not dress watches as each has a metal bracelet. Look it up. In long term value the Submariner is by far the best in holding value and could be the cornerstone of a multiple watch collection or a one watch collection.

Your asking our opinion, so I’d knock the YM off the list immediately.

I think you have versatility backwards. White is pretty good, black sub goes with everything.

If I had to choose... I’d go 116610ln as the winner. If your set on the 114060(which I wouldn’t recommend), then I’d go white DJ flutted jubilee.
