What to do?
AD just called offering the BLNR on the Jubilee bracelet. I panicked. I've eyed the watch for a while, but cannot really afford it right now.
I thought maybe that I should sell a watch (short-hand Explorer I, Omega FOIS, Tudor BB58, Bronze IWC Spitfire time-only). But it seems the market is down and so is the value of my collection. What's the right move? |

Or accept your stroke of luck and sell some other pieces (despite their low value) to fund the Batgirl (as you may not get the call a second time). It all depends on how much you want the Batgirl. I got one last year and absolutely LOVE mine |

If you can’t afford it now just pass on it and wait for it the next time. Unless you reallly want the watch badly then I guess I would sell or trade off some of your lesser desireable peices

Only you can say what the right move is. You have to decide if the BLNR is worth parting with one of your current pieces. I probably would if I was in your shoes.

I see you're in DC...if you want the watch and can afford it, I'd grab it...who knows how long you'll have to wait for it or if they'll offer it to you again.

I would look at it from a balance sheet perspective. You may take a hit on one of your others, but the acquisition, for now, is worth more than sticker price. Even if you are not thinking of flipping it, it would be good economics. Plus, sounds like you really want it. Thinning the herd is always good as you trade up.

Think you should pass based on the current collection and affordability concerns. Besides the BB58 there doesn’t seem to be much value retention in the remaining watches. Don’t think it’s due to the current market but just a function of those specific pieces.

Keep the Explorer I and flip the others in your collection for the BLNR. frankly, those non Rolex pieces are not the type to appreciate no matter how long you keep them. That’s just a market fact. Only Rolex truly appreciate over time.

The loss he would cop on all those pieces would outweigh any financial gain he would get on the BLNR these days. He would actually be worse off. The BLNR isnt exactly a easy piece to flip these days with any decent profit. You'll be lucky to get $11.5-$12k from a gray dealer now and thats IF they want it.

Be honest with yourself, meaning can you afford it or not. If you can, enjoy it!!! If not, wait until the hype dies down and purchase one later on. I'm sure your AD would understand that you will be a long term customer. In the meantime, the AD undoubtedly has a waiting list to satisfy.
If the AD is truly outstanding, he will allow you to substitute another interested buyer without violating his distributor agreement (only allowed to sell to customers within a specific geographic territory. Heck, if the AD is willing to have a substitute buyer, please let me know as I just sold my ole GMT Master with plans to buy a new GMT Master II with that exact setup (color and band) Either way, its a watch that should bring enjoyment, not additional stress about how to pay for it |

Max the heck out of your credit cards and get it!!!!!! Just kidding. It’s my favorite watch (even over the black Daytona I got on Christmas Eve). If you can sell the others I would say it’s worth it to have fewer special pieces vs more not so special pieces. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Once it is no longer a good flip, the ADs will have them in stock more regularly. Even if they don't put them under glass.

I'd sell the Exp I, Tudor and IWC and get the BLNR.

If you can't afford it, you can't afford it, but if you have the free cash, I'd pick it up because retail prices aren't going down on them. Worse case, you take a small loss if they become prevalent again at ADs.
You could always give someone else a shot at it, by being a nice person (my inbox is accepting messages). Otherwise, |

If your tight on cash in general, a quick flip (with a modest profit) with could always be an option. Tic Toc.

if u can't afford why buy? this is supposed to be hobby. Not a venture that puts u into debt.
you wouldn't force yourself to buy a house, car, vacation that you couldn't afford so why would this be different? doesn't sound like you have emergency cash for rainy day either. |
