New Incoming educated me on a Rolex price increase for GMT 116710LN

I know posting this will potentially create many negative comments, but keep in mind the following long history I have with my AD and I know their policy very well.

I have purchased from this AD since 2009 and know the owners and the employees well. I have been a long time collector and they have always taken good care of me. I have been blessed with getting every version of watch that I have wanted even all the hard to get ones. They have always had a strict policy and never ever have sold above MSRP.

When this model was discontinued I decided I wanted to get one since I never owned this version and they got me one of the last ones they had in May 2019, which was at the $8,450 list price.

About 3 months later after I got mine in May 2019, I had mentioned I wanted to get one for my dad, which I figured they were all gone already and they had also sold me one a few months prior.

Last week I revived a phone call letting me know my name came up on this watch and during the process of going through all their inventory due to the current situation they had one left. Also to my surprise Rolex did have a price increase on this model. I had them double check with the Rolex rep, which I have also had the pleasure of meeting. They confirmed it and now to the point of this post.

Rolex final list price for model GMT II 116710LN is $9,150

I am guessing there would be hardly any from and AD that made it past the January 2020 time frame, so how else would anyone know. I simply wanted to share something I learned with those here that like interesting things like this.

Thanks

Interesting that they can raise the price on a discontinued model they happened to discover they still had.

My guess would be that it is a new watch and warranty has not been activated so it would then be subject to price increases. Just my guess, but for a good client seems like it should be sold at the last retail price. In any event, At $9150 I think I wouldn't complain for this unworn watch, complete set, and I am assuming a Rolex 5 year warranty. More interesting to me is that they managed to find a 116710LN laying around and found while going through inventory. This place has no computerized inventory, interesting.

I think you're right and it has to do with the warranty. Even a watch from the safe that was prior red tag, becomes green tag Aug 2016 and later. I've seen discontinued models in ADs from the safe many times actually. Always listed at the current price of equivalent model.

I think that’s still very reasonable for this model. Thanks for sharing.

Did you end up getting it for your dad?

Well a month later in June 2019 I bought him a Tudor Pelagos all black, which he absolutely loves and he has never owned anything close to that nice. It was my special gift to him for all that he had done for me. Since I have 2 of these now that we’re purchased new from the AD, I will just wear one and keep the others for one of my children when they graduate from college.

A great way to think about getting this one a year later after being discontinued from the AD. I couldn’t pass on this one!

Wow looking good

quick correction to my earlier meant to say July/August 2015 was the warranty change. Not 2016

Quite a gem of a find

Congrats! I remember the 116710LN was the last SS Rolex I saw in an AD display in mid 2018. Didn’t pull the trigger at that time.

Congratulations! Glad you got one from the AD which is almost unheard of.

On a side note, another example of AD dishing out hidden inventory because they see what’s coming down the road..

.

When a price increase occurs , AD receive the full list of new prices including every eventually discontinued models that have chance to sit in their inventory. You would be surprised to see which "old" models are still in this list ...
