Rod and Reel Combos

As with watches, Fishing Tackle can get expensive. For those that like to fish, what are Rod and Reel choices? My are middle of the road. Shimano Curado reels and St. Croix Premier Rods. For those that really like to fish, this can be a passionate subject

#1 Quantum Energy PT set up with a Falcon LR MH
#2 Shimano Chronarch with same
#3 Shimano Calcutta with a M G Loomis caster

I could probably write up another page or three on this topic...

Great combos. Those Chronarchs aren't cheep and Loomis rods are sweet. I have a Loomis GLX flipping stick.

It all depends on the application.
I do mostly Salt Water Surf Fishing.
Most of the time it's with Rods to 11' long.
Some ( ) of my setups are:

Lamiglas Custom Ron Arra 1322 (11') With Penn 706Z

Rainshadow Custom (I built it) SW1207 with Penn 704Z

Smart man!

Ugly stick rods are great performers.

Now if only I could get the hang of baitcasting reels without creating a mess of backlash

buy the ones with good brakes on em and you don't have to be a pro! of course they don't cast near as far but you will get the hang of it.

Good thread!

I use Calstar custom wrapped by Yo's in Gardena, CA.
For reels Shimano Calcutta for light tackle, various Daiwa Sealine series and Pro Gear for 20 lbs and up. For 50lbs.+ class Shimano TLD 2 Speed has been great.

Back in the day these use to sit in rocket launcher of the Commander. But now that I'm landlocked again I go with Bass Pro Shops Extreme rods and reels. A lot of bang for the buck and they stand behind them. Nothing glamorous, but better than anything money could buy twentyfive years ago when I was seriously tournament fishing.
