Something you DO like about Rolex........

In my short personal history w/ the Rolex brand I've lived thru the hubbub of 4 Basel shows. Consequently I've seen the anticipation, the rumours, the speculation, the new releases, the analysing, the pros, the cons, the disappointment, and finally the outrage. The future may or may not hold a new Rolex for me but there are years of past references and history from which to satisfy my soul.
I do like:
- vintage acrylic crystals
- how light dances off the bezel edge
- the beautiful YM dial
- the cyclops
- the chamelion like GMT
- the elegant simplicity of the Air King
- the robust SD
- the classic styling of the TT DJ
- the screw down pushers and chrono functions on the Daytona
- the Triplock Sub crown
- rotating bezels
- bullet proof oyster bracelets
- iconic jubilee bracelets
- the bold, yet business like DD
- the historic EXP
- the multi use EXP II
- everything vintage Tudor [and Rolex having the guts to produce a less expensive alternative wrapped in the classic Oyster]
- and most of all, the wrist presence exhibited by Rolex and found in no other brand, IMHO.

It is the reason I joined this site. Had someone notice my Rolex this morning. I am wearing a GMT II TT Brown Dial with brown leather strap. The person noticed how the strap matched the dial.

Very well put Dan, I too love the acrylic crystal and was just thinking about the Cyclops this morning. I will not hijack your thread so I will start a new one with the cyclops question I had. I also am drawn to the Red second hand of the YM and the TOG

New stuff I like: I like the way the way the GMT bezel quietly rotates around the dial, easylink adjustment and the green 24hr hand and writing.

Oh ya I also like the Orange 24hr hand on the Explorer

A very worthy list Dan. Here are my personal highlights:

- The history - Very few companies can match up to the rich history of the Rolex brand
- The Datejust - A lovely no-nonsense watch that looks as good in 26mm as it does in 41mm. The new one might not please the purists, but I think it's a step in the right direction.
- The Day Date - My idea of the perfect dress watch.
- The technological engineering on the Deep Sea
- The new clasps
- The ability to choose so many different dial combinations on most models
- The GMT IIc - My idea of everything that's good in a modern Rolex
- The honesty of the Submariner
- The subtlety of the crystal on the Milgauss GV
- The bulletproof movements

Great list Dan. I will add a few of my own:

I like:

-The Glideclock clasp;
-The cerachrom bezel;
-The 3135 movement;
-The 3185/3186 movement;
-The over-engineering that Rolex puts into their watches;
-The feeling I get when I hear the snap and feel the smooth bracelet around my wrist

I love that shimmer of the GV's green crystal, and watching the second time zone on my gmt2 for an hour! LOLI'll go out on a limb possibly alone here and say PCL's too, I just think they look sharp also the fact that no matter what I do with it on in the kitchen It always comes back smiling back at me even after doing 400+ covers on some nights. To me folks thats the tops!

Plain and simple, the movement.

first and foremost i love the feel of the bands. no other manufacturer makes a band that looks, feels and lasts like rolex bands.

Excellent list Dan. In addition for me it's the heritage of the brand and either vintage or modern movements that are not only supurbly accurate but tough as nails.

Hard to explain this one. What I like best about my SS Sub is how it makes me feel. My Sub is one year old this week. I still catch myself looking at it or finding a reason to take it off and polish it. My family struggled when I was a child. I have been lucky to find success as an adult. The Rollie is some sort of statement for me. Not a show off kind of thing but one where somehow I can look at it with great satisfaction. I do love this watch. Thought I was odd until I met some of you guys!
