Help about President 1803

Hello, bought this President 1803 a couple of years ago, but did not know much about the model and looked good a the moment but know have some questions.

Is this a correct bracelet and clasp for 1965 ??

Is the dial original to the year and model ??

I was think of trading it as part of a payment for a new watch, so also some help on the value of this watch.

You’ve lost a good deal of $ on it. Liquidation value would be around $5-6k for a Frankenstein watch.

Yes, Rolex will service it if all parts are genuine. Also, I don’t think you did badly at that price. It has no vintage/collector value, but probably it never did - Very few 1803s do. In the eyes of most buyers, the newer bracelet and dial have made it look more modern. If it keeps good time and the bracelet is not stretched, you might even sell it for more than you paid, though in trade it would be less. Look at 1803s with that bracelet for sale on Chrono24 and you’ll get an idea.

I was going to say, the bracelet alone is worth quite a bit more than melt value - even in these turbulent times. I believe almost all Presidential bracelets alone are between 2-3 oz of Pure Gold which may hit $1659 oz today.

You have a solid gold watch with a lot of easily verifiable weight. There could be a market coming (returning?) where PM content will be the main rule of value.

That bracelet alone is worth $4-5K and another 5 grand for the head of the watch if you were to try and sell it outright but very slow right now.
If you wanted to liquidate it quickly then you could sell the bracelet for 3 grand and the head for 4 grand very easily even in the current climate.
Dont listen to Submarine, hes stuck in 2012.

I totally agree with the majority here. I believe the watch is worth more than you paid and is still a nice piece, even though not all original. As others have said, there should be no problem with RSC service as long as these are all authentic Rolex parts, which the dial and bracelet appear to be.

I cant tell from the pics but are the clasp blades rose gold and not yellow gold?

A few things on the bracelet dont look right but it could be the pictures. The clasp blades should be rose gold and some of the roll marks are askew or missing.

I am pretty sure that I’ve never seen a Roman gold indexes white dial on a 1803...only Buckley dial burg then the index is black...custom? aftermarket?

OP, remove the bracelet and show up a pic of the numbers on the end link and clear pics of the engravings between the lugs so that we can read them.

the clasp does seem to be more rose compering to the bracelet

the bracelet seems more modern, I would say from a 18038, and the dial is changed for a more modern one. It seems all original but from different times.

Is it even possible to fit an 18038 dial in a 1803 case? Thought the 1803 only took pie-pan dials?

The closest dial style # I saw is 18038/106, but there the chapter ring was different. The one dial photo here isn’t clear enough to really examine the dial.

If it really is a pie-pan dial, shaped like below, I couldn’t swear it’s not a late 1803 dial I haven’t seen. But, some members here have decades of back catalogs*, and if they tell you a certain configuration wasn’t offered, that’s as sure as anything gets with Rolex.

* - The rest of us are grateful for these members’ generous help (all the while, envying them with the heat of a thousand suns).

The pan isn't as deep but it does have some depth
