Rolex 1575 GMT Super Fat Font Insert

Hi there,

I recently saw this insert listed and I’m interesting in making a purchase. Just want to make sure everything is ok before I make the purchase! It’s red back and a super fat font insert. The “22” on the bezel looks slightly different from my usual inserts and would like to ask what you guys all think! Let me know!

Thanks!

The print definitely seems misaligned.

Hi

It’s possible to have pics of the back ?
It looks fake but first time I see one of this kind... it’s a nice one, the biggest issue is on 20 / 22 numbers... big difference

I am accustomed to seeing the bottoms of the 2s in "22" oriented to follow the inner curve of the bezel. The OP insert almost seems the opposite. Perhaps it's a variation I haven't seen, but I wouldn't rush into a purchase on this one.

Certainly has the wear and patina but the 2s are off...I’m sure it’s expensive but a gamble/fake I would say...

really fat fonts on an insert are generally attributed to a worn printing tampon, this wear gives not only the thickness to the fonts but also a blurring of the edges of the font exactly as shown in Lees drop dead beautiful 1675. The OP's insert, apart from the shape and spacing of the numerals is altogether too sharp. I wouldn't spend money on this as it is in my opinion a very well put together attempt to trick an unwary buyer out of their hard earned cash. Who is offering this for sale?

From a Japanese auction site. I’m aware that this isn’t a mega fat font insert like the one Lee posted; probably a super fat insert instead. I don’t know, I’ve seen similar variants with the 2s not matching the curvature actually. Arguable.... the red back and the patina matches though so I’m really not sure.

Here’s a pic of one of mine for comparison...I see the bottom of the 2’s tend to follow the curvature of the insert. The example posted has 2’s that sit more square to the insert curvature.

Here’s my other 1675 matte insert. Both are mega fat font, period correct and authentic.

Perhaps an enlargement to show the alignment issues on the 2s in relation to the edge of the ring. Not good. I have seen this on fat font, medium font, and thin font service insert clones on EBAY quite frequently. BTW, I would not trust myself to buy a whole watch knowing so little but I have been fascinated by the inserts for some while now.

So, what's the final verdict on the OP's?

I agree. I would not buy this depicted insert as being genuine, at least based on the photos.

It’s all in the details. Someone went to great lengths to pass that one off. Always a great educational experience to have The GMT Master chime in :-)
