Are micro-scratches inevitable? (118238)

I got a mint 118238 this past Monday, and have worn it every day since then and plan to wear it indefinitely. I've noticed some micro-scratches come about on the polished part of the links. I have done everything I can to keep it free of scratches, I'm still noticing some micro scratches on those center polished links? I'm incredibly OCD about keeping this thing minty mint and I'm the same way with my boutique guitars. Should I just get used to those scratches since I know I shouldn't be polishing this thing often?

If you’re going to wear it, scratches will happen. Some people put protective stickers on their watches and report satisfactory results.

Me personally just wear the watch and enjoy it. If scratches happen, then I have the option to have them disappear during regular service every 10 years or so

Like this answer and feel same way. My sub c is about a year old worn everyday I leave the house except for yard work etc. and has a few scars but still in decent shape this thing is tough. I too am ocd and don’t have a bunch of money to replace and is my only Rolex bought brand new and I do try to take care at work when helping pax with bags etc to keep it covered to prevent scratches but can’t always do that and sometimes it takes a whack haha

I just could not imagine wearing a watch with protective stickers on it.

Agreed friend. Application sounds time consuming and I would not want dirt and microbes being trapped between the protective stickers and the watch.

Time consuming : for sure.
Dirt and microbes ? Absolutely no issue with this. I use a « clear protect » dedicated to bikes and nothing can go btw the sticker and the watch...and it is invisible.

Yes they are inevitable.

Seriously

Polished parts of a watch can get micro scratches even from your shirt cuff

Eventually, the micro scratched kinda blend in and don’t look so bad

It kinda gives the watch character

PCLs = scratches. Even from your clothing. It's something you can't be OCD about. Although caring about not unnecessarily damaging your watch is never a bad thing.

Any solid gold watch will get them no matter what you do. Just accept that fact and enjoy wearing gold. There is nothing like it, IMO

Yeah annoyingly it’s absolutely unavoidable. After a while you won’t care as much but I feel your pain.

I bought my first and only Rolex last year....wear it on the weekends all the time, no matter what I'm doing.....gets "banged" up for sure....to me something is only worth it if it will be used....cars, watches, guns, etc....use 'em, abuse 'em, then they're worth every penny spent....

I’ve taken stickers off, sat on the couch, and by the next day i find one. I don’t really mind it but they do happen rather quickly.

Micro scratches are inevitable with a gold watch. Just wear in and enjoy.

You had better get used to scratches with watches. Otherwise you will be a very, very unhappy person. Wear them and E-N-J-O-Y them to be used and gather their own 'history' as intended.

Life is too short to OCD over meaningless issues.

The best way to minimize that minor "spider-webbing" effect is to clean the watch gently with warm water and dish soap and your fingers, never use any type of brush, never rub or dry it with any type of cloth, then simply let it air dry naturally.

I learned my lesson today. I tried to use a soft soft toothbrush and well... you know what happened. Mild scratching

Only real way to avoid is not wearing. You will get used to them. Nothing to sweat over !

They are the worst, and more will be coming as you wear the watch. It is just something you will have to get used to as an owner.

Yes, you should just get used to them. It is a wonderful thing to wear a Rolex every day, but it won’t be if you stress out about scratches with every movement of your arm.

This thread brought back something in the back of my mind. I thought Rado watches with a ceramic (or whatever) case was supposed to eliminate scratches.
