Montblanc M Fountain Pen
Hi guys, could I get your opinion on my first proper pen. I have absolutely no knowledge in this area and would really appreciate your input.
I am thinking about getting the pen below. I like it for its simple styling. Is this a good writing instrument for a complete novice? Thank you for reading... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Here's an article; it looks like a cartridge pen. Getting a converter would allow use of bottled ink. Some of my best writers are lesser priced models. Currently they only have ball points for this line on their website (at least here). As far as good writing; as I've discovered, much depends on correct ink and paper.

Hi, Harvey. Here is another article on the Pen. I've ordered one as the result of your interest. I, in general, am very happy with the Montblanc line. Other than one which I purchased and appears to be a fake, they are all great pens. There is a certain amount of division on this pen in particular as it doesn't take other than cartridges without a converter, the cap doesn't post, and it may not take a standard converter (smaller might work). Here's a second an third article on the pen (at least one of its variants).

Thank you for the articles. After reading them, I too have placed an order for the fountain pen. I like it as it’s quite understated and different. As for posting, a YouTube video, showed the Ultra Black allowed the cap to be posted? Although written commentary for the previous version agrees with your statement, that it doesn’t. I will report back as soon as it arrives. Have a good day! ps. I bought the Ultra Black Fountain Pen. |

What a great thread!
Only on TRF can someone ask a question and 2 Mont Blancs get purchased. Excellent work chaps. Congratulations to you both. Looking forward to seeing some pics Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

By the way which one did you order the shiny or matt version? Quote:
I had some time yesterday to do some reading, so made the decision to buy, after it had been on my radar for some years. Think I might have got the last one as it’s now out of stock! |

Just arrived! Less than 48 hours after I ordered it. So a quick pic for you.
After taking the pic, I turned the nib a little so now the magnetic cap / clip aligns with the snowflake logo on the plateau, as it is meant to. Next need to decide on what colour ink...maybe cool grey? Or manganese orange to match the orange accent? Will order both. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Mine is in customs and should be in early next week. I'm hoping to see it Tuesday or Wednesday. Ink color is a very personal choice. I'm fond of the Jonathan Swift ink as well. I've also got a Rouge Et Noire Metamorphosis due in as well. I purchased Heritage Spider ink to go with it.

1)Push out the old ink, 2) get a small glass of water and flush out the residual ink by filling and emptying a few times. (I also run the nib under water coming from the tap to rinse off excess ink prior to dipping into the glass of clear water.) 3) Once the water coming out of the pen looks clear empty the water and fill with new ink. |

Oh. I thought it may have been more complicated than that.

There are those who recommend using distilled water. So far I see no issue with tap water and most will say that is acceptable. I guess one could order some clean Bavarian Mountain Spring water just to be on the safe side.

Not yet. Need to order the ink and a journal.
Got distracted by buying books on Rolex, watches and time. Looking at building up my library on the subject, which is another expensive hobby. |

I've started using Montblanc journal for the past few days. I find I still need to be careful with ink selection even with the Montblanc paper. Yesterday I did a bit of a round robin with inks to find which ink works best with which pen. I'll be keeping an eye out for your results!!! I'm pretty certain that the cartridges will work wonderfully with the Newson pen as that's what it's designed for.

Great pics Lee! Is there much difference between the weights of the two pens?

Per my kitchen scale, Spidey ways 35 g and M 27 g. Strangely the smaller is heavier.
