Rewarding your long-time staff with Rolex

Hi guys,

I'm been absent for awhile. Partly because of all the negative s**t with a certain virus and partly because I'm been extremely busy.

But anyway, I just wanted to share a bit.

As many of you know I'm in the restaurant business.

Back in 2017 my head chef had been onboard for 10 years. I wanted to celebrate this and the great work he had put in, and he really is a huge part of our (my) success. Much more so than his salary. Long story short I bought him a No-Date Sub. He still wears his Sub daily, and truly treasures it. I'm glad, as he and I have become lifetime friends, and I trust this man with my life.

My head chef's childhood friend came onboard a few years later, and he is equally solid in every way. Awesome personality with a great sense of humour (he should really be doing stand-up!) and a soldier in the kitchen.

These two gentlemen are my Chef and Sous-Chef. Superb blokes in every way.

Today was my Sous-Chefs 10 year anniversary, and we somewhat agreed earlier that the watch for him was an Explorer 2, black dial.

I've never been happier to buy a Rolex for someone else than today! The virus is pretty much over, my restaurant is open again and doing great! We're working hard with some restrictions still, but we are (for the moment at least) doing better than before the restrictions.

Long story... But I just wanted to share some of the joy with getting a real hard-working man his Rolex.

Group shot below of Jani's 14060 (Chef) My 1680 Red Sub and Sami's 16570 (Sous-chef).

Classy thing to do. And I say that as a happy recipient of a no date Sub myself after 20 years service.

Man, that is incredibly cool of you. Nice work!

I honestly thought this was going to be a story about how you’d like to reward them with a Rolex, but could never find one!

Awesome story OP. I have a soft spot for the black Exp 2. So glad to see watches being worn on the daily.

I’d get them Raybans for 20 years - got to be better than the glasses you’re all wearing in that picture!

Well if I was being them sunglasses it would be Maui Jim's.

These are 3D glasses used at Kennedy Space Center.

What restaurant? What city? It would be hard not to support you with that kind of allegiance to your employees!

Other side of the "pond" I'm afraid, but if you ever visit Finland you are more than welcome!

Lug holes galore. Fantastic story and an awesome gesture. There's no reason for them to be late getting to the restaurant.

Thanks for sharing your story.

What a way to show your appreciation and I'm sure it's reciprocated in many ways.

It really is. We are all like a big family. I'm not saying there's never any problems (I've got 30 employees), but I do try and work around problems. We're all different. Most staff work for a couple of years (summer jobs etc while studying) But the kitchen stays pretty much the same. Heck, we where all almost kids when we started this!

That family atmosphere is truly one of the secrets to a successful business! When you have your team treating the business like it’s their own it makes such a huge difference.

With the amount of profit sharing bonuses that I’ve paid out, I could have purchased my entire team a Rolex but I’m sure they much rather have the cash!

If you don't mind, please post about what may be the restaurant's special dishes

let me be clear, I think that's pretty awesome! just a question though, do they like watches or is there any chance they'd have preferred the extra cash, maybe a bonus or a raise in pay? either way, very nice gesture!

They had the option to choose cash. I'm glad with their choices.
