Finally got my service estimate...

Well, I finally got the estimate from the Lititz, PA service center for my 20 year old 16710 (Coke).

Necessary Service / Parts:

* Full Service $750
* Crown with gasket 604 ST $46
* Sapphire Crystal D29.5 1.8 Cyclops Anti-Refl & Gasket $133.40

Optional Service Items:

* Hands 16758 240 G Baton Lumi $64
* Seconds Hand, W, Green Lumi $25
* Hand FLE 16758 260 55 18CT G Rouge Lumi $25
* 24-Hour Insert 16760 Black/Red $40
* Bracelet 78790A 20/16 801 13 Links ST $1,350

I'm obviously getting the "necessary" stuff, but the only optional thing I'm getting is the new bezel insert (the red on my old one is faded almost white). They said my bracelet was "worn beyond practical repair" but it still worked fine when I sent it in, just pretty saggy. I didn't want to give up my original hands. Can't wait to get her back!!

I sent an email directly to the service center, and told them I've worn it every day for 20 years, and that I put every nick and scratch on that bezel, and that I pay extra to get it back, to keep with my original box and paperwork. Got an auto reply back. We'll see if someone actually answers it.

I don't know what all those codes on the parts mean, but I'm assuming on the crystal, that's 29.5mm on the crystal, and 1.8mm on the cyclops? Never measured the original one, just assumed that's what it originally came with?

I don't believe they will let you keep the old one, but getting a new one is very easy. Do not let them keep that original bezel insert, it looks awesome!

Not sure I have much choice. They have it, and I already authorized a new one. I did offer to pay to get the old one back, but we'll see. On the bottom of the service estimate, it says "All parts and accessories are replaced on a trade-in basis". It's ok, 20 years from now, I'll have another faded one!

I got this email back from the service center about my old bezel insert:

To answer your question about the insert… we may certainly provide that back to you for a nominal upcharge for a non-trade in item. I appreciate that you want to retain your history for future generations. I will forward your request and an updated estimate will be sent to your jeweler.

So happy I'm getting it back!

The only optional thing I'm getting is the new bezel insert. Also got the updated estimate from the AD - the bezel insert is $40, and to get the old one back is an extra $16. Now I'm trying to find out if I can pay a little extra to get the original crystal and crown back, too. I think it would be awesome to have all the original parts in a little sealed bag to keep in my original box.

Pay them the $16 before they change their mind.

Is that a 1.8 cyclops instead of the regular 2.5?

hopefully they let you keep the old bezel insert. I would feel attached to it after 20 years.

Exactly

And it seems like they’re worth a ton once they’re faded

For sure keep the bezel unless you want that new look. Although a naturally faded bezel like that probably fetched a good sum. Why do you need to replace the crystal? I wish they would just replace gaskets or broken parts etc. even replacing the crown makes me cringe for a watch like this

And yes, blada4life, I wanted that new look. I'm not a watch collector, this is my one and only. It's been looking pretty shabby for the past 5 years or so, faded and scratched, wanted it looking new again, for the next 20 years!

In that case you may want a new bezel but see if they will let you keep your original one. Worst case just buy a scuffed you one on eBay. Might pay a little more.

Surprised the dial replacement wasn't offered.

I think they will let you keep the bezel as that is what I was told by the Dallas RSC. This was for my 16750. I decided not to replace it as I liked the original with al the history.

Aluminum bezel insert for $40 ...and they got the colours right !!

I maintain ,except for the black ceramic insert,I prefer the aluminum inserts.
Even when I compare the 16613 and 116613LB insert ,the colour matches the dial colour better on the 16613.

Thanks for providing these numbers, I am planning on sending my 16710 in for service soon.

Do you know if Rolex replaces the non-SEL bracelet with the SEL bracelet?

Very reasonable quote. Going to look great! I would've taken a new bracelet but kept insert.

Personally I would have taken the option on the bracelet - if that fails then you are in big trouble!!

Snowbob,

Is this the first time you have had it serviced or did you service it 10 years ago?
