SS Daytona Waiting List

I've noticed a lot more new SS Daytonas on the forum lately. How many of the new owners were on a waiting list? If you were on a list, how long did it take for your Daytona to become available?

I'm considering putting myself on a list for the white dial SS Daytona, but I'm not sure I will be able to buy a new watch for a year or so. I don't want to get on a list and have a difficult decision in 3 weeks!

I called up my AD 2 weeks ago and asked for a Daytona and was told none in stock. Went down the next day and they have one in stock (as usual). Tried it on and placed a deposit for it. I've always want one for many years I guess now is the right time to take a plunge.

Have read in this forum that there are people on a 6 year waiting list? ?? ???

"Waiting lists" still exist.
Getting one directly or in a few days is more than a "lucky punch"

Why donīt you register on the list and if there would be a "come in" before you have the full sum you can easily sell it to another guy who wants one and is happy to get one at retail price..... ?

It took me about 4 months for my Daytona to show up at the AD in NY.

I have started to see Daytonas in most of the AD's cases around my woods. I was at an AD that had a couple in the case yesterday. I was on a list for 2 years and got two calls from the AD in that last few months saying my time came up in rotation, I passed and they now have SS white dials in the case.

My AD told me that he would sell it to me at list price and that it would take about 2 months.

It seems to depend where in the USA you live, really.

In Canada it is still impossible to get without waiting for years.

My AD has a SS/ white and a SS/Black sitting in the display case, doesn't seem to be problem or wait in this economy.

To my surprise, I walked into my local AD 2 weeks ago and asked. They had both the white and black dial brand new V series SS Daytonas in their vault ready and available. I walked out with the WD for retail + tax. The black is still available I think. PM me for the AD contact if you want.

But this past week, I talked to 4 other ADs in the MD/VA area and none of them had a SS Daytona. The owner of one large Virginia AD told me today his store hasn't received one in 3 years. I was at the Wynn Rolex AD in Vegas last month (supposedly the largest rolex inventory in the US) and they didn't have any SS Daytonas.

Got my black dial yesterday! No waiting list here. It wasn't in the store's display case but in an out-of-view safe. I did have to pay retail without discount though. The dealer absolutely would not move on the retail price.

I realize that I was very lucky to get one just walking in "off-the-street" as I made a few calls to other dealers (all of them said there was a 1 to 2 year wait) that also required a $1k deposit.

I think I just happened to come in to the dealer at the right time (he actually had both the white and black for me to try). In my opinion, this dealer knew he could sell the s.s. Daytona any time he wants - he said as much to me (which I didn't care to hear frankly). In any case, not being a regular customer, it was nice of him to offer both whie and black for me to try.

Cheers.

I say - buy a good used one. With Rolex you don't really have to worry about service, and as long as it is in great shape, you're safe. Plus the savings, the savings! Just my twopence...

Well, I have come around. What my mistake was - I was comparing Rolex to the wrong brands - Patek, Lange, Breguet, Vacheron, AP and such. I still don't think it can hold a candle to any of those, but what I didn't realize before is that IT DOES NOT PRETEND TO. Those are known for complications, while Rolex, in comparison is a reasonably priced workhorse with in-house movements. The most complicated Rolex nowadays is a YMII, not a single perpetual calendar, not a single moonphase, tourbillon or minute repeater. Instead - Rolex puts out excellent watches which will withstand the test of time, hold their value, look great 20, 30, 40 years later, and, most importantly, serve their purpose. Sub, SD are probably the best divers on the market under $10k, and so on, and so on.

I definitely learned from TRF, and I appreciate the gained knowledge!

Few AD around here have them in stock but in their cases. You can ask they will sell it to you. Infact I have a friend in Tourneau and he said that in the past you have to be a $60K customer to even get on the list. Now as long as your name is in their computer even if it just for battery purchased you can buy one which they have few. They still have "Z" and "M" series brand new.

What wait list? This watch is no longer hard to get as we all know. Anyone with a phone and one hour of time to make a few calls can get their hands on either a white or black face SS Daytona at MSRP. I say wait another year or so and buy at a 20%+ discount. The economy is headed to depths never seen before. Hold on, it is going to be a bumpy ride.

I France you are still looking at 2 years , anyway most AD here pass on SS Daytona's to their friends who put them on Ebay or in other shops with a 20 % mark up and split the profit .

Absolutely correct. Rolex is just like a good pre-owned luxury car. The original new car buyer pays the hit for depreciation. This is especially true for Rolex now in this economy!

You might save a little bit of money but, after owning the GMT IIc, I would REALLY recommend the new clasp which I believe is on the newer Daytonas too.

I'm probably "off" all the waiting lists by now since I've turned down quite a few.

Just picked up a black dial. Had my choise of either white or black. New AD, I was on the "list" for 3 days! I did purchase a sub date from them 3 days before, so I am sure that helped.

i was on at one AD.. came after 2 years..
on at 2 other... never came
called a dealer i use a lot and just mentioned it and got in a week..
called another random dealer and they came back with one as well... called this and above at same time just "hoping" and they both came back and i felt like a jerk to "stand them up" on my promise to buy so had to "eat" them both.

my suggestion would be to call around and put yourself on the lists and say "im ready to buy" and see who calls back... call as many AD's as you can..

Eight months for me. Unfortunately, it coincided with the price increase from $7600 to $9200.
