Considering a trade...would you do it?

I'm heavy on Rolex in my collection and have never owned a Patek. I'm considering a trade for a Nautilus 5712. I really dig the blue dial and moonphase complication.

Would you trade these 3?

116500 White,

116519LN

126600 mk1

for the 5712?

I'd have to put a little $ into the deal as the 5712 is around $65k-$70k.

Thoughts?

you're heavy on Rolex but you won't be if you make that trade. I love that Patek but the SD43 is the shiz

I don’t think I’d do that. You are trading away 3 really great watches for 1 great watch.

Based on my current collection and owning the 5712, I would make the trade in a heartbeat. It would without a doubt a great trade as the 5712 is simply an astonishing piece!

You won’t regret it.

In my case, I would trade my Kermit, my Daytona, and my GMT for the 5712.

I wish Patek and Rolex AD's had dummy watches you could try on to get a feel for how they wear.

Since you own the 5712, how does it wear compared to some of your Rolex pieces? Tough to make a decision never having worn one..

Way much more comfortable than any of my Rolex. I would say that it even beats the Daytona in terms of comfort.

The 5712 is super thin and the way it hugs your wrist makes it without a doubt the best along with my Aquanaut.

You won’t regret it for sure. My Rolex are in a safe now and haven’t worn it since my 5167 and 5712 have come in.

I am curious, are you trading those in at an AD, and if so, what will that AD give you for your 116500?

Around $60k in trade value among the trio. Haven't broken out each one.

Nope, say "no" to the trade is my advice; but you must walk your own path.

Depends how your big your collection is. If these are just a few randoms on the roster then do it. But if these are all you’ve got keep them and enjoy them.

No I'd be keeping a sub smurf, and a yg 16528 daytona, as well as a birth year red sub. (Although any of those except the red sub could be subbed in)

Which red sub - you mean the sea-dweller?

In light of this, and if you really like Patek, then yes, go for it!

I think the Nautilus is ugly. I would never own or wear one.

This I agree. The only Patek I like is the calatrava, in my opinion the perfect dress watch.

I was initially in this boat but it's grown on me big time and love the moonphase and power reserve dials. And it's a nice change from all the "round" cases.

life's just too short and none of the pieces you're talking about are unobtanium, so go for it. why not?

I would keep the 500c and find some other way to raise money, though I am not really a fan of 5712.

I’d keep the 116500 and add extra cash instead. regardless of what else you have in the collection at that point, a 5712 and 116500 are a dynamic pair.

That’s 54k combined MSRP of 3 current production watches for 1 current production watch with MSRP of 41k.

So not a good trade if you paid current retail or above for the 3 you’re trading towards the 5712. And you said you’d have to add cash on top. You’d essentially be taking a 13k hit plus whatever cash you have to add. That’s too steep in my opinion - especially since you can get many other great watches for the 60k trade value.

But sometimes these things can’t be approached logically as the heart wants what the hearts wants. Good luck with your decision!

Do whatever you want. This is a decision based on your own enjoyment. That said, the 116519LN is a sweet watch and one of the Daytonas with a growing demand. Also the price of the 5712 seems a bit high. I think you can shop around for a better deal, but they may not be willing to trade.
