Why did Rolex skip the GMT Master 50 year anniversary celebration?..... or did it?

I’m not an expert so please feel free to correct any of my facts below!

My understanding is that rolex first venture with GMT was the all gold 6542 which was sold from 1954-1959

The first SS GMT master was the 1675 in 1959.
That makes 2009 the SS GMT anniversary year (or 2004 if you count the all gold one as the first issue)
Neither of these years (2004 or 2009) rolex came with a special or anniversary GMT Master!!

The closest was the 2005 all gold 116718 reference then in 2007 the SS black ceramic 116710 model was introduced

Unless rolex decided to skip an iconic anniversary, the mow discontinued 116710LN is technically the 50th anniversary (well 48th anniversary)

Thoughts on what or why Rolex did with the GMT Master anniversary??!!

The stainless 6542 was in 1954. The green dial 116718 (which is on my wrist today) is closet thing to it.

I thought the green dial 116718 was the anniversary edition.

I don't think they do separate anniversaries for each metal, although the black ceramic had a green GMT hand when it came out, maybe thats a hat tip to the SS model.

It was a year late if I remember.

The Gray dealers are revising their prices accordingly as we type!!.

The 48th anniv. GMT should now be worth about 5 grand more!

I certainly hope not! But if it’s the case, I’m keeping mine anyway!

On a serious note, neither the green dial hold nor the LN SS fall on an anniversary year!
Again unless Rolex decided to “slip” this one in without marketing hype!

Very few Rolex models have had an "Anniversary" of any type.

With the sub, seadweller daytona (arguably the platona) and the Expected Explorer II anniversary special editions, I would’ve expected the same with an iconic GMT master!
