Rolex GMT meteorite dial or Patek 5711 steel
Given that price is about the same; the Rolex GMT meteorite is BNIB from 2019 and the Patek 5711 is mint from 2012, I am interested to know the preference of the Rolex forum members. Which one would you take?

GMT ll Meteorite without doubt. The Patek 5711 is nothing spectacular and have never understood its attraction. Reminds me of 1980's Seikos

The meteorite, not a fan of the design of the 5711.

As much as I like the 5711, I fear it's popularity may be a phase. I remember it was only a few years ago ADs couldn't pay you to take them off their hands. I suspect that one day it may be the case again...
As for the GMT, it is a beautiful watch. Even though WG is not rare, the dial most definitely is. It is in finite supply and one day Rolex will run out. It's a watch that I wouldn't be surprised reaches 6 figures (at auction) over the coming years, especially if you keep it BNIB. |

Gmt, and it’s not close. That PP reference is a dress watch masquerading as a sport watch stuck in a 1970’s body. PP and AP saw how much Rolex was doing and brought in genta to cash in on the sport watch craze. Nothing wrong with that, but AP/PP are dress watch companies at their core and if it was one of PP chronos, that’s a different story. But to me the PP you are considering is like gshock coming out with a dress watch. It’s just not in their DNA. If you want a sport watch, the GMT wins hands down and has real heritage. The PP model you are considering has no heritage.

What I mean is Rolex was making lots of money selling sport watches and PP while extreamly well respected was and is a dress watch company. Rolex was not cheap at the time and PP thought they could start to slide in on the sport watch movement. Now of course they were not going to price them lower, and so the lux sport watch was born. Now, they were and are not making better or more robust watches than Rolex, simply making less of them and have some hand finishing. PP/AP brought in an outside consultant to grab some sport watch market-albeit the high end to push the boundary. And let’s face it, they were not all that successful for many years until salaries among the top 3-5% income earners exploded. But to me, it’s like that will Farrell movie the elf, where the book company is struggling and so they can’t come up with their own idea and brings in this famous consultant to give them a “hit”. I also disagree that that the PP nautilus is a luxury sport watch, it’s a dress watch masquerading as a sport watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Rolex GMT meteorite dial or Patek 5711 steel
Vote for 5711. Iconic, very well made, will stay a classic for years.
I love the GMT and have 2 variations, but never fell in love with the meteorite dial. Now if it was the RG CHNR, not sure I would say 5711.

I'm partial to anything Rolex, own multiple GMT's, LOVE the meteorite...but I'd have to go with the 5711 as the long-term investment piece. It's a classic that will never go out of style or demand. Value retention / appreciation will likely exceed the meteorite.
THAT SAID, buy what YOU want / love. I just purchased an Everose Yacht-Master and could have picked up any number of other watches with the same money...but this was one of the first times that I bought a watch just because I've always loved the reference...I didn't worry about resale or buying something more popular on the forums. No regrets thus far... |

My favourite GMT by some distance. And I’m a fan of the GMT generally!
But...5711 for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

GMT meteorite looks better but 5711 is higher brand.
I thought 5711 is higher price. Pick the one that sing to you. |

I’m a fan of both brands but a pretty apples and oranges comparison.
The Patek IMO...has a beautiful dial, but pretty boring, as well as being fairly small and fragile. The Rolex IMO...has a much more exciting dial, a GMT function, and a much bigger, bolder design overall, case, bezel, dial etc... Out of your choices, I’d personally go with the Rolex. As always, for me .... put price aside, put future value aside, and go with what will put a smile on YOUR face when you look at your wrist! |

I'm not a big fan of the meteorite GMT because i have found it hard to read when I saw it in the metal but I don't like the 5711 at all, so GMT for me.

If you can get the 5711 at Rolex money, you should go for the 5711 all else equal.
