Purchasing Pre-owned?
New to the forum and came here for advice from the experts. I'm looking to buy a pre-owned datejust. 36mm, steel/18K fluted bezel, jubelle band, with preferable white dial. It's important the watch is authentic in and out since it will be an appreciating heirloom. After researching the best solution seems to be a private owner sale/purchase but that's unlikely.
The online stores are subject. I could go that route then authenticate with a jeweler but reviews say it's tough to return. Bob's Watches looks to have the only and best authenticity guarentee. Any suggestions are appreciated including biting the bullet and buying new. |

Purchasing pre-owned requires your own due-diligence.
There is no on-line seller that can absolutely guaranty a watch inside and outside as you desire, nor will any jewelry store. If you want a watch that is entirely Rolex, buy the one you like within your best judgement, then send it in for a complete Rolex service at a Service Center. They will replace aftermarket parts, including in the movement.

Thanks for the feedback. I considering purchasing pre-owned and then sending to Rolex for service. In the end it will probably cost almost as much as buying new. Thanks again.

Your right about that. New is usually the best option. If you do also try on a DJ41 just for size as it is actually 39.8 mm by my measurements, some say 39.5. Happy Choosing!!

I recently bought a used GMT from a member here. A little scary wiring money to a stranger but I'm please with the watch! Keep your eye on the classified section here - daily if you can to get a feel for what's available and current market prices. I looked at many, many ads/watches for months before I pulled the trigger. Swiss Watch Expo seems to have a lot of inventory so you might want to look there as well. Enjoy the hunt!

Have you tried reaching out to a few of the grey dealers on here? They can probably help you. Welcome to the forum btw!

I bought my Tudor straight off chrono24.com - funds held in an escrow account - until I received the watch.
Very simple. Very straightforward. Chrono 24 is - in my opinion - serious about being a respected platform for authentic watch business transactions. They verified their dealers, payment is via PayPal or Credit card, or a wire transfer, shipment was insured and sent Fed Ex overnight, authenticity guarantee, and easy process for any returns. It was a whole bag of win, win, win for me. The watch is flawless. Several hundred dollars less than crown&caliber. I'd use them again for sure. Something you should consider. |
