Out of State Sales

Was wondering how to get around Rolex dealers out of state saying they wont do interstate business? I have spoken to a few and they seem very hesitant not only talking prices over the phone but making out of state deals. They seem like they have the power to do it but they say it goes against Rolex AD policy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That is correct..

An Authorized Dealer cannot sell Rolex watches over the Internet or by telephone solicitation..

Some exceptions to telephone sales are made for known customers. It's part of the contract Dealers enter into to be able to carry the brand.

I am sure it is against Rolex AD policy.

But you can go to a Gray Dealer (GD) on the net or find someone here on this forum. You can usually find some good deals if you hang around and see who is who.

I think it against Rolex policy! My AD is the same. However, if you make the purchase in person, he can mail the empty box to your out of state relative so you don't have to pay the tax! (only for good customer I think!)

Some AD's will ship an empty box, other will not. My AD insists on shipping the "whole enchilada" citing a neighboring local AD that was busted by the state taxing authorities years back and was very stiffly fined by the state.

The only way this works is if the company you buy from has a store in your state / province as well.

If the company has a store in your state, you would have to pay the sales tax anyway. If you really want to avoid state sales tax, your best bet is to buy used or through a GMD.

I live in TN and visited an AD in Washington state. This was back when the DSSD was difficult to obtain.......none of the ADs had them. They had one in their case (to my amazement) and said that they would sell it to me for MSRP, but I waffled about it. When I returned home, I couldn't get it out of my mind. I called them on the phone, and explained that I had been in their store just the previous week. I told them I was ready to buy the DSSD, did they still have it. They said no, they didn't still have the one on display......it had sold. However, they had one back in the safe.......Did I want it?? They didn't bat an eye selling it to me over that simple phone call. This was not a beat-and-slam mall AD either, they were very particular about their watches while I was at the AD. The only caveat, was that I did pay shipping of ~$75, but it was worth it saving sales tax. They were great, and I would definitely buy from them again.
