Help - High Pitch Ticks

Hi Everyone! Updating from last post. I went ahead and bought the 116200 datejust with white face and batons, z-series. It's really sharp. I don't have any pictures yet but I will post them when I take pictures.

Since getting the watch a couple of days ago, I've been noticing this high-pitch ticking when you put the watch next your ear. I'm not moving the watch but just listening to it tick. The high-pitch tick doesn't happen all the time but it lasts about 5 secs in a minute and then it doesn't repeat itself for another couple minutes.

Is this normal? Thanks in advance!!

Mine (116710) does not make any out of the ordinary noise? Just a smooth flowing fast beating Tic, Tic, Tic

Mine too, just the familiar fast tick. Keep an eye on yours and keep track on the accuracy of the timekeeping. If it is out of spec, consistently, after a few weeks or so then I would say take it back for a quick check up. It is mechanical and it needs to settle in.

All mine, but more so with the Yacht-master and especially with the GMT IIc, go "tic-tic-tic" but during any given minute the "tic" becomes more of a "chime", for several seconds, then reverts back to "tic-tic-tic". it does this a few times within each minute. It's really quite beautiful to hear I must say. It's like a little orchestra is in there. I really have to listen hard for it. All mine keep excellent time, and my GMT is still spot on since I bought it.

Just put my new Sub ND to my ear and it sounds exactly like you describe it!

^Yes, that's really a great way to say it. It chimes. I like listening to it but just wondering if this is normal. Thanks everyone for the response and please keep the feedback coming.

Normal, put you ear on a pillow with your watch underneath it & it will amplify the sound....just make sure its quiet.

Yep, works great to amplify the music. First time I heard this while lying in bed, I thought I was cracking up! I was thinking "where is this cool sound coming from?!".

Can you maybe make a video of this and post it up on youtube so we can all have a listen? (srs)

What you hear is the "singing" of the Rolex caliber.

Really, if you have an opportunity to compare the sound of the caliber with other non-Rolex models you will recognise this. All Rolex calibers "sings", whilst others "just" ticks ;-)

Trust me. Try it. ETA (Valjoux) 7750 have a very "dry" ticking. No singing at all.

A well trained watchmaker (or a WIS - like me) can hear the difference between calibers.

Best,

A

I Guess I never listened to mine long enough. It does definitely sound different throughout a 1 minute interval. Nothing I would describe as “high pitch” but nonetheless a different "pinging" sound almost?

Sounds cool though.

You are correct. I remember listening to my Omega when I still had it, and it just ticked. No singing.

Mine told me to stop listening to the other voices in my head.
