Disappointed in the DSSD JC in person
I have been thinking about buying a DS JC but was concerned about the size and comfort of the watch, I didn't want to purchase one and return it as it did not feel comfortable to wear. So I found a DS JC about 3 1/2 hours away and took a drive to see it yesterday. I have a 16800 Sub date and Polar EXP II 42mm so I like large watches. The DS JC was not sized to fit my wrist a bit over 7 1/2 inches but was close enough that I was able to see how it fits and how comfortable to wear. It was not as large as I thought it would be, not much larger then the Polar lug to lug but is thicker, but did not look too big on my wrist. What really surprised me was that the watch didn't have the "pop" I was expecting based on the pics and videos I have seen? In comparison to the Polar bracelet the JC bracelet had more of a dull look to it, the bezel was not glossy and the blue/black dial looked darker and looked mostly dark? I was in a office with florescent lightning not showroom lighting and I even went to a nearby window but no improvement. I was really disappointed in its presentation. This was the 116660 model and was a 16 or 17 but had some stickers still attached, could it be that the watch needed to be cleaned? To be honest it looked like a bad fake replica, but I am sure that it was a legit watch? Has anyone had a similar experience viewing a Rolex?

Totally disagree
I just purchased last month a DS JC. I think it’s amazing and definitely a great watch. Submariners are entry level watches so it’s understandable you don’t know the difference. |

I’ve heard the Sub being called many things, but entry-level isn’t one of them |

Oh wow. It’s okay to disagree with the op but you don’t have to throw jab “understandable you don’t know the difference”? Take a walk and chill out man. Op, I disagree. I have owned the sub Nd and the sub date and felt that they got boring after awhile. I tried on the JC and that watch is just perfection to me. To each his own! |

I agree with the OP. Way back in 2017 when the AD had watches I saw a JC in the case and went over to see it. There was an EXP II next to it and honestly the orange hand and black dial looked so nice in person I just didn’t really even care about the JC anymore. That was a surprising experience for me because I had expected to love the JC dial and I had only ever liked the polar explorer II dials.

To the OP - great move to sacrifice and drive the 3 hours to try it on. I've purchased watches based on photos only before, and most of the time it doesn't work. I'm a huge advocate of seeing things in person and trying things on in person first, which obviously isn't as easy to do these days. Good luck in finding that next piece!

Sub was first, the marketing gimmik watches came after. That’s the difference. Unless of course you think that man can survive underwater in greater than 1000 feet, lol.

Good news and redemption!
I found a new 2020 DSSD JC locally, and picked it up today. Yes, it is very nice and pretty to look at, at different angles when the light hits it, the upper blue of the dial really lights up and looks beautiful. I wore it all day at work today and found it to be extremely comfortable (more then expected). It just disappears on my wrist and it will fit under my shirt sleeve (barely) and suit sleeve (easily). The glide lock system is amazing and I was able to adjust it once or twice and the fit was perfect. To be honest it is a tad more comfortable then my Exp II polar 42mm because of the more precise adjustment of the glide lock. Can't say that I noticed a weight difference at all (I am 6ft 220lb former football player that still works out) and it looks great on my little over 7 1/2 wrist. I was really on the fence in buying this watch, nothing better then expecting to have to accept some short comings or compromises and then find out that something exceeds all expectations. Can't wait to test the 12,800 feet rating Thanks to everybody that provided positive feedback that helped me make this decision!!!!! |

Complete opposite for me. Wears extremely well. Ceramic bezel is a gloss black. Dial changes from a dark blue to a bright vibrant blue depending on lighting. Very well balanced. Would have liked to see pics of the one you tried. I always loved the JC DSSD and it exceeds expectations in person, For me anyway.

It was really exact opposite for me.
It wasn't even on my radar and when I saw it I was blown away and had to have it. Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk |

No it wasn't, found the seller on chrono24, and I just checked and the picture listed is not of the actual watch. As I mentioned before the purpose of my trip was to see touch and feel one in person and then purchase the 126660. If the watch yesterday looked like the picture above and how everyone is describing it I would have purchased it yesterday as the $2k drop in price was a good deal for the older model. thanks for the feedback
