That COVID test - yowza
Wife and I got tested for COVID yesterday in preparation for our trip to Maine (the state requires a 72 negative test OR a 14-day quarantine...no-brainer there).
Did not realize they'd be touching my brain through my nose A very uncomfortable feeling - to the point that I pushed the doctor away! Actually had to watch my wife go through it first, which made it even worse. I suppose we're weak... Tests came out negative though, so off we go tomorrow.

That sounds uncomfortable. We were going to go to Maine in June but canceled due to their requiring a quarantine for it of state visitors at the time.
I had the antibody test, which was a blood test thankfully, also negative. Not sure I’m down for someone touching my brain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I too had a Covid test, but it was more of a swirl at the entrance to my nostril. (thank God)
Once had a flu test that was equivalent to your Covid experience. I told the nurse when it was over "Be glad that your a women, otherwise I would have punched you in the face you already" Those test are brutal! |

Was in the Middle East and coming home had to get that done, not the most pleasant of experiences. But glad you both are clear to get to Maine! Post some pics on your outings so most of us who aren't traveling can live through you!

I wonder why they have to reach all the way to the back of your head through your nose, while we’re told vapor or a droplet from your breath is enough to infect.

Whomever administered the swab shouldn't have went so deep that it would have been THAT uncomfortable. It's not the most enjoyable experience, but it shouldn't have went like that, either.

She was not the most gentle human being we've dealt with. Quick in and out, no pleasantries, could care less about the anxiety on my face, haha.

Yikes, sounds painful.
My mom had one before going in for a procedure back in June and she said it was uncomfortable but not terrible. Unfortunately we had to bring her to the ER about two weeks ago and they admitted her. She said the test they gave her before being admitted to the hospital was WAY worse in the ER. Seems like it depends on the person administering as you mentioned. Have fun up in Maine, if it's Southern Maine (Portland and south) happy to provide some suggestions if you need them. |

That COVID test - yowza
I already had to do it twice its not the most comfortable thing but no big deal normally. Even my 5 and 7 yrs old kid didn’t cry. Most probably the operator was wrong.
The funniest part is that PCR test are useless They reach the bottom because they are looking for a certain protein. Protein that is not produced by CoVId 19 positive persons with no symptoms. And can still be found upto 6 months after one has recovered

The COVID swab was a breeze compared to a Nasal endoscopy.

How on the planet earth would my former state of Maine even be able to keep up with or track such an invasive requirement????

I suspect when law enforcement sees an out of state tag on a car, they stop it and check for the proper paperwork or confirm a quarantine destination is being directly driven to.

I don’t think so. We’re getting close but we aren’t the Soviet Union yet. “ Papers please“!! No!

They're also going to ask us to fill out some form about the consequences of not quarantining and things of that nature. We'll see how it goes - all I know is that we wanted to follow the rules so we wouldn't be stuck in Maine for 14 days...bringing the work computer just in case!

I had a PCR test done two weeks ago before my trip to French Polynesia. My first test of such and it definitely felt awkward. I had to also do a self administered one four days after arriving as well.

What part of Maine? If you’re going to Bar Harbor it is extremely crowded. If you’re going to Acadia, go very early especially for Sand Beach. Lastly there is the Schoodic part of Acadia that is far less crowded and beautiful it it’s own right. It is an easy loop to drive around with many opportunities to stop without the crowds. Lastly, do a boat cruise. We saw a bald eagle, a bunch of dolphins, and a ton of seals hanging out.
If you have the chance, Portland has a hip downtown area but there is a lot of homelessness. They are not aggressive at all but be aware of that if you decide to check it out. |

If you're into beer, Bissell Brothers is probably my favorite brewery outside of Vermont. The Portland location seems to only be doing curbside pickup which is a bummer because they do have a beautiful taproom and patio there. There is also a distillery next door, StroudWater. Eventide in Portland is great and looks like they have some type of outdoor dining these days, haven't been up there since late last year. http://www.eventideoysterco.com Holy Donut is another place we usually bring out of town friends when we go up to Portland. Potato donuts! https://theholydonut.com I also read the other day that they opened a Bob's Clam Shack up in portland as well. We go to the one in Kittery, it's been there forever and the whole clams (IMO) are great so I'm thinking Portland is If you drive south towards Wells/Ogunquit/Kittery (lots of outlet shopping) I can also give some suggestions for that area, I vacationed there a lot as a kid and now as an adult. The beaches in Wells are some of my favorites, Nubble Lighthouse is in the area as well. I'm only an hour and a half from Portland and I'm jealous of your trip..have fun! |

Ouch. You’re scaring me. I have a trip as well and will be testing today or so. How long until you got your results? I hear the free tests take about a week. Paid ones are quicker.

How did you get your results back so quickly?
We cancelled our trip to Maine, Kennebunkport, Acadia and Bar Harbor because I do not know of anyplace to get results in time to meet the requirements for Maine.
