The wife finally decided to have wild crazy love making this weekend and of course I was at the doublewide by myself.

Picture this...

Claire has been nagging on about all the old baby stuff in plastic tubs in the conservatory at the moment and keeps on about my tidying the loft in order to put it up there.

Problem is we're short of loft space. I tried boarding out the loft when we moved in but it was such a hassle and tiring job that I gave up after two boards.

On saturday, Claire went into town with William leaving me at home so I thought I'd surprise her and use the last 10'x4 composite boards from the garage to board out what I could.

The damn boards weighed a tonne and almost killed me tring to wrangle them upstairs by myself.

Once up tehre, heart punding, sweat flowing, I figured I could get them in the loft by myself...through the 3'x3' hatch.

Too small....not if I went in angle to angle, the hypotenuse method.

That would have been fine if I was just going straight up but our roof has no gable end, it's hipped slope begins from eaves only a few feet before our hatch opening.

After much banging against the hatch and walls, I finally got a board moving through the opening.

Heaving with all my might, I pushed it up, step by step (on the step ladder) bracing it against me so I could angle it along the internal roof slope without ripping the felt.

Things were going way too easily and once I had managed to get into the loft itself I noticed that the far end of the board was balancing precariously upon the edge of our artificial xmas tree box.

Trying to ease it over from one end was dangling above an open loft hatch, not only did I drop my torch and knock the step ladder over but I also succeeded in knocking the board off the box and I sent it carshing down towards the flimsy ceiling jopists and plaster ceiling.

Without thinking I heaved the board up with all my might and moved as quickly as I could towards the xmas tree pivot to try and maintain it's balance.

If the end had hit the ceiling, the whole lot would have come down.

So there I stayed, braced against one end/side of the board and constantly puttting it under pressure to prevent it hitting the ceiling by teetering on it's xmas tree pivot.

6'6" of fat git in a space of about 4' high...for 3 hours.

When Claire finally came home and heard my calls she left me up there another 30 minutes for being so stupid!

Well, the weekend didn't suck any more than usual - just depends on how much I want to let it bother me that hubby sleeps on the couch while I take care of laundry, yardwork, trash hauling, cooking, cleaning, and wrangling 3 kids? Geez, he loves his days off.

I just try and realize that there is nothing to date that I haven't been able to handle. When I handle it well, it just makes things less stressful and somehow it works easier. I guess I'm just trying to say, we always make it out ok, just try and enjoy the journey.
