Trade GMT master 2 rootbeer for Pepsi?

I will pick up a GMT Master 2 Rootbeer without any waitlist. Would you guys trade this in for a Pepsi on the grey market without cash?

Better idea - buy a watch you want in the first place instead of one you don’t???

I don’t know if it’s something about my market or particular AD but a root beer was sitting in the case when I picked up my BLNR on Saturday and I’ve seen one make it to the case there once before earlier this year. First time it lasted about three days. This time I called a friend who ran up to the AD and scooped it up so it lasted about 6 hours on a Saturday.

I was offered one by an AD that I have no purchase history with and was on no waiting list. We met last year and exchanged cell #'s. Got a text this past April with many 2-tone sports available. I had to pass. I'm pretty sure I was way down the list of contacts. April was during the height of the lockdown here in NY.

I would not do this if you also had something more sporty in your collection. Even them I love the rooter so much I could see it being my "one watch".

You want to trade for a watch with the exact same movement that doesn't have precious metal, oyster band and has poorly painted hands instead of rose gold ones?

And it would cost you $5k over retail? That sounds insane.

Which do you prefer? I think I like the RB the most as I definitely like TT better...

seems like they both have around the same grey value. seems fair to me but it would come down to preference.

Nope; I wouldn't but it's not my watch!!! Do as you please!! You are talking about a CHNR and BLRO, correct?

Yes, I would do that if feasible, as at the price of a MSRP CHNR, you are getting a BLRO well below it’s market value... Despite what the forum moralists will preach.

This.
But unfortunately, you’re not going to be able to do that trade without putting money in on top of the CHNR.
BLRO is an amazing piece. Spending this kind of money on a watch, you should always get what you really want.

Not a chance. CHNR all the way.

The BLRO is nice and all but to sacrifice that piece for a lot of hyped up value rather than true MSRP, not a chance, the CHNR is nicer being partially PM and the MSRP reflects it.

You don't want the CHNR, you want the Pepsi. My opinion based on even asking.

Which one would you buy if you could buy each at MSRP?

If you’re able to do a straight trade and are cool with paying that much for a Pepsi, then do it. Stainless is better than two tone in my opinion. And I like the RB, but prefer the jubilee on the Pepsi. For reference I have the oyster black gmt 116710LN and the 126710BLNR and like the jubilee better than the oyster.

I just got a Pepsi and probably getting the root beer next. I think the root beer is underrated. I would keep the root beer and keep trying for the Pepsi. Root beer is a cool watch. I prefer the oyster bracelet.

I would not buy to flip.

I was offered a BLNR by my AD recently and while I knew I could have bought it and flipped it (plus some cash) for a BLRO, the next day I wasn't in the least bit inclined to do it. IMO (FWIW) these things should go to homes who will love and appreciate them, not commoditize them. I'm on the list and will wait my turn for the SS BLRO.

It's your decision of course. If you haven't met a TT CHNR in person you might find it harder to part with than you think. While the BLRO is a design icon, a legend in its own lifetime, it looks a bit prosaic next to the lustre, depth of perceived quality, warmth and visually clever CHNR. And the latter actually contains PM of material worth, not just a load of hype.

If I wanted the BLRO, I’d just buy it. Why bother with all the shenanigans
