I don’t think so, unless that’s a new feature introduced by Rolex, but if it is it’s a new one on me!

As of right now the only people I'm aware of that can scan it for it's information are A.D'S, RSC and Rolex itself. I doubt just any card reader could do it.

Rolex have a specific activation / Apple device. There is a RFID or Bluetooth chip in the card. By waving the card over the phone, Rolex “activates” the warranty. And I imagine collects data on the transaction.

I think what the OP is asking is can the customer i.e him/you/me scan the card with our IPhones & get the same info?

If it is RFID/Bluetooth than reading raw data from the card is not that hard. I'd assume it's RFID if it is really like that since Bluetooth range is too big and Bluetooth devices require power source in them whereas RFID can be passive. The data might be encrypted in such a way that we won't be able to read it. However there might be a way to break encryption. Since we know some of the plain text that should be encrypted in the card. Serial number and model number at least right? Therefore there might be a way to break the encryption. Especially if we have raw data from more cards with more known serial numbers and model numbers.

I have not seen the 2020 cards, but older cards were swiped, so you could read the card with the magstripe reader. Never tried although now I am curious. If someone has new cards and an Android phone try bringing it to your phones NFC antenna. Maybe even use some apps that would allow reading raw NFC data if you are curious.

Like you suggest I would assume the data will be encrypted & only the AD would have the software installed on their iphone to read it.

I would think you would need the proprietary Rolex software to read the warranty card.

The data is also probably stored on Rolex side with warranty card being just that a card that has stored serial number, similar to RFID card you have might use to access your office, the system itself has data on where your card grants access, not the card.

We won't know what it does and doesn't store until somebody reads the RFID tags and manages to crack the encryption. Knowing some plain text stuff which will definitely be in there helps, but it is still hard.

I was at my local AD 4 weeks ago. Suddenly he mentioned something about Rolex would be changing how warranty was registered. I asked into it, but he said he couldn't tell me more at the time. I specifically asked into if it was electronically registered and he just looked down without saying more (: Not a "yes" but definitely not a "no" either.

Yes, and on the watches that have the master chronometer certification you can see the test results from the certification. It will show you all the tests and the results for your specific watch.

Many brands already do this. In fact I like the way they do it.

For instance with JLC you get a certain number of warranty years when you buy from an AD. if you go home and register online with JLC they give you several more years of warranty. Their site also allows you to log in and see information about your watch, schedule a service, price out of service etc.

Is any of this stuff essential? No, but it's kind of cool to have. I also like how JLC doesn't even care about warranty cards anymore. They still give you one but it is not nearly as important as the Rolex card.
