Watch Winders for simple RO’s?

A while back I posted a thread about my 15300 going back for its 3rd service in 6ish years. Two of the three times were prompted by a date wheel failing to advance via quick set.

After a recent speedy full service - no refinishing - I was told by the nice folks in Florida that it’s recommended APs should be put on winders to “keep the oils moving” and to avoid drying out etc.

Now I’ve been on the forum for a while and I’ve been on countless threads about the overkill of watch winders - unless one has a perpetual calendar complication, or something of that nature...(right Padi? )

Question.
Has anyone heard from other AP service centers or trustworthy sources about using a winder? As mentioned, in the numerous threads over the years, this notion of oils drying up in modern watches has largely been debunked. I was surprised to hear the recommendation from AP.

No, never been given such a dumb recommendation.

Regarding the date wheel failure of the 3120 movement: It is important not to set the date when the date setting mechanism is already "engaged". I. e. one should not set the date between 6 pm and 1 am. Therefore, always set the hour hand to a position between 2 and 5 - then it's safe to set the date without harming the date setting mechanism.

Yes. Ever since my first date issue, I always set the watch to 6 o’clock before advancing the date.

I’ve never hear the winder reco either, but coming directly from AP...gave me pause.

I set time to 6.30 (am or PM) whenever setting any of my date watches. I think this recommendation was given to me by a watchmaker

Either the title I gave this thread put people off or the notion of this AP-suggested use of a winder is as silly as I thought it was.

If you have to think about a hand position before setting the date then technology left AP a long time ago?

I have a Roamer with the movement AP and Rolex should have used.

51 years without an issue.

I’m telling what AP told me...

Certainly APs are more finicky / dainty than Rolex... I love the look / feel of my blue dial 15300 so I suppose I’ll keep it. My main goal here was to see if others ha heard this notion of winders from anyone in the AP universe.

Wow, surprised to hear this winder nonsense being advised by the APSC. For a simple 3 hand watch, I wouldn't use one.
