Would you guys do this trade?

2013 GMT LN - (My first Rolex)

2019 Datejust 41 on Azzuro Roman Dial and jubilee bracelet with 10 yr warranty

For a 2016 AP 26120ST (GMT) plus some cash... guy wants 36000 CAD for it..

Really been thinking about it as technically I would be paying 30k CAD for it.. I know a lot about Rolex but not too much about Audemars so that is why I’ve turned to you guys.

The guy is telling me that this particular model is discontinued and it is going up in value... his exact words: Personally I think this model is really undervalued. It’s an AP GMT in the most classic royal oak size. Also more complicated than the regular Royal Oaks. Probably a collectors’ piece down the road.

The 2013 GMT LN is a beautiful watch, it’s your first, and it’s discontinued. Personally I would keep that watch forever and never let it leave my collection.

That AP does look interesting tho. Same as this one going for $25k?

Looks like same model but only black dial and this one will come as a full set 2016 also a discontinued AP.

It is my first but not from an AD, my first one that I bought second hand and was my first love lol but AP has been growing on me huge.

Personally, I think you should always keep your first Rolex, especially if it had any special meaning to you.

Looking at that AP, honestly I don't see the appeal. It's a matter of personal taste but frankly I find that dial hideous.

Your GMT is 12-13k, your is DJ a bit less. Money wise it makes sense.

But, I would part with the GMT. Its your first one and its a great all around watch.
Are you gonna be left with the AP only? Would you wear that watch as a daily beater?

I wear my GMT daily, money wise it’s looking decent I would like to talk him down a bit in all honesty but he seems firm on price. I just don’t know how resell value/value retention on AP is.. it’s so new to me I know that start out price of any AP is almost double that of an stainless Rolex.

His value for GMT is 13.5k CAD (10,500USD)

And about same for the Datejust so I’d have to put up about 8k CAD.

I do have a brand new rootbeer in the safe and also a hulk in the safe which I haven’t touched since new. These two watches I alternate with so I’d probably wear the Audemars daily with my Apple Watch in rotation lol

He is little low on your GMT. Since you are trading.....it should be at least 12k imo.
At the end of the day its about what you like. But it seems to me like you are taking your chance with the AP as you are going along with what the guy is telling you about the increase in value.

Did you buy it new in 2013 from an AD? If so then no. If you bought it a year ago and it’s got no sentimental value then possibly.

I slept it over and I’m definitely going to lose on the trades especially on the GMT he is undervaluing my GMT heavily.

I did not purchase the GMT brand new I purchased it last year from a reseller who needed the cash and I got it for around 10,800, a week later it got discontinued which is kind of where the sentiment is for me and also that is my favorite reference from Rolex (any gmt really) lol.

I’m leaning more towards trading the Datejust and some cash but I gotta beat him up on price

Did I read this correct in that your two watches are getting you 6k in value? I would not do this. I think your trades are getting way undervalued.

Well technically they’re getting me 28k cad in value - the way I looked at it was I paid 10,800 for gmt and 11,340 for DJ and I’m making about 5800$ on the back end although if I was to sell privately I would most likely get more for them.

So I’m going to be paying around 30k for the AP offsetting the 36k he wanted.

No deal if you are adding cash. Ignore what he's saying - he's trying to move the watch. Is this a straight trade? Your post was a little confusing. You need to make sure the AP is clean as a whistle if you are giving this much up.

I think I’ll work him down on the price or possibly trade the Datejust and some cash depending how much he’s asking.

So far I know he wants 36000CAD which is around 27-28k USD, I haven’t found many of this reference around and in my opinion it is quite nice.

I think the power is in your hands. He knows there’s are not many people that want this exact AP, and he’ll have a hard time finding the next person that wants it.

Your two Rolex watches he could sell within a week.

I agree with this! The AP you are after is a difficult piece to move. The trader can sense your desperation for the watch hence the tough negotiation tactics. I don’t think it’s worth adding cash to the trade.

Think about it carefully before your go ahead. The black GMT is a good watch. Unlikely Rolex will release a unicolour bezel GMT anymore to avoid it being too similar to the subs.

I paid 11,340 CAD for it and he’s valuing it at 13,500.
