Question about the new sub
If you had the opportunity to buy a new 41mm Sub, would you do date or no date? Thanks!

Really this is the absolute truth; one shouldn't buy if they need to ask others which they should buy. If there is no personal bias then it likely is a foolish purchase.

You realize that comments like this are just sassy and unhelpful, right? The OP wants a recommendation more than your own personal take on purchasing philosophy. Seeing comments like this begins to get tiring.

I'd buy the one with the date only because I already have a 114060

+1 But I'd probably go rolesor as I wouldn't really want 2 steel subs (still contemplating the discontinued bluesy)

personally i bought the submariner - i wouldnt say no date as some members take offence at reference to the submariner 214060 as a "no date" model as rolex sell them as the submariner and submariner date and always have
i preferred the simple uncluttered balanced look of the watch without the date complication and it was £1k cheaper so far as that matters but also i dont need a date feature as i retired last year no wrong choice here except not to buy one of the submariner references obviously

Totally agree with you guys all above, I have a SD43 and kind of like the idea of no date but I do use that feature but they do look clean without. I have yet to see the 41mm in person.

OP, as others have said, only you can know, but since you're asking for opinions ...
I dont really like the date function on a diver so I went with the modern interpretation of the classic Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk |

You could do what I did and tell your AD you'll take whichever one comes first: let the hand of fate decide. The hand dealt me a Sub41 Date, and I love it---though if you'd pressed the point when I was in limbo, I'd probably have said I preferred the Submariner.
I, for one, love both options equally and would never bother owning one of each---date or classic, they're essentially the same watch in my mind. I don't see the date as "clutter," and I might even say that if asked to envision the Platonic ideal of a wristwatch, the SubDate would be the image in my head: the cyclops is part of that. The classic sub is definitely simpler in design and spirt and truer to tradition, but come on: the date feature has been around since the 60s---that's plenty of tradition too. And anyway, that'd be like saying you'll only drive a car with a max HP of 20 because that's what the Model T Ford had. If tradition is so important, source a 1953 ref620x. Otherwise, pick what you like (or let fate decide) and know that whichever you get, it'll be just an absolutely perfect watch that'll outlive you. Just my 2 cents. But full disclosure, I'm a heathen who wears his 126610 on a strap. |

There are seven (?) "submariner date" models and only one without a date. "no date" is immediately clear and requires no contextualizing. It's also worth noting that Rolex calls the entire submariner line "submariner," so sticking to what Rolex "sells them as" actually includes the date models in that. If it helps, think of "no date" as a nickname like all the others. And then... ask yourself what kind of healthy person would "take offense" at any of this. |

I have both the 12 sub and bluesy. If I had to pick one, sub all day. Such a clean simple look.

Date for me, I use it all the time.
There’s no right or wrong answer here, there’s no real value or resale difference. Get what you want. |
