Hopefully this helps alleviate some phobias related to polishing. Especially when only performed with routine interval servicing.

Awesome video. Outside of seeing how much gold is really lost, it was cool to see how the actual polishing is done.

You're welcome, I saw it on my YouTube feed and figured this is the perfect place to share it. I wish they could suck up all the gold and make a little gold bar out of it to keep!

$37.63 total loss for the way it looks after polishing? LOL.. No brainer, if you are trying to sell it... Greys will do this all day every day and still get a premium.

Very cool video. I knew it wouldn't be too much, but it was actually a bit more than I expected (I was thinking it would be VERY minimal, like $5 worth). Still, good to know and should alleviate some fears about polishing. Polishing a smaller watch than a YMII will obviously lead to even less loss (not % wise but absolute dollar value wise).

They should do this same video for platinum! I’m sure it will be quite a bit more $ lost! :-p

Platinum actually costs much less than Gold right now, it’s just a much harder metal to work with, hence the cost premium in jewelry.

Gold p/ounce: $1,867.48
Platinum p/ounce: $1,048.39

I saw in one video that platinum is so hard, that when polishing, you just move atoms around and not actually lose any....not sure how true that is!

Hence the :-p in my post. I’m like 99.9% sure that is an accurate statement. You don’t lose platinum when polishing.

It has the hardness similar to 904L steel. It scratches up about the same, according to many members here. I really enjoy the glow of my YG Sub. It took buying an 18K watch to truly understand why so many here love them.

Platinum jewelry is also near pure platinum vs. gold jewelry, which is a far lower percentage "pure" gold.

Actually when making watch made up of platinum it needs more platinum to make a platinum watch compare to gold.
25% is loss when you melt a platinum to make a watch hence thats why platinum watch are more expensive than gold watches. Thats why ven gold is more expensive per oz, but you lose a lot in the process when platinum is used.

And where does it all go? (The gold in the wheels and drain filters)

Yep right into the bag and to the reclaimers. Reclaiming precious metal waste is a cornerstone of a workshop’s routine.

Now maybe some can see how so many overpolished gold watches are popping up. The shop is paid twice...

This is a true statement when it comes to polishing. Any shop worth their salt is going to collect the scrap from the job to be sold.
