Are we allowed to meet up with a private seller from Chrono24?

Sorry if it's been asked before but I couldn't find a thread addressing the specific question. I'm interested in buying a piece from a private seller based in NYC. Wondering if it's against any policy (like how it is on ebay) to schedule a meet up in a public location, and go to RSC or Wempe to review the piece with a watch paper before purchasing in-person? It's supposed to be new with stickers, and I have the same watch in a different colored dial so assuming it shouldn't be too difficult to evaluate with a loupe. TIA

People talk about contacting sellers direct through eBay and chrono24 fairly often to cut them out. I’m sure it’s against their policy. But hard for them to track I imagine

I would not think Wempe or RSC want to get involved in a private watch transaction. Too much can go wrong. Its a headache they do not need on their premises.

I think it would only be an issue for the seller when they try to remove the listing, there will be some red tape. However, good luck trying to get an AD to verify the watch, most likely not going to happen for liability reasons. I’ve heard of people sending them to RSC for service, then reject the service when they go over the details... RSC will only work on real pieces.

correct, ive gone in to adjust a link and asked for paperwork and as you said, they probably take it in the back and open it up really quick and do an inspection before doing anything. that paperwork is as good as verification for me. i wouldn't go to Tourneau and ask a sales person to verify if a watch is legit. good point on the seller removing a listing, but i guess that'll be their risk to take in dealing with the admins

I met a private seller once. He flew in from Singapore and delivered the watch in person. We had a nice chat over breakfast.

I do not see an issue with this. Many sellers list on different platforms so it is the sellers responsibility to take the watch down should it sell. You should be able to get the watch cheaper as the seller will not pay the fees. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

No issue from what I see - get it from a trusted seller and save the trip to RSC.

I think it's more of a moral question than a legal one.

If you are cutting Chrono 24 out of the commission that the should get for listing/advertising the watch then it's kind of an issue. I'm sure there are ways around it.

Is it right? You decide.

Lot of people advertise their watches on various places at once like Chrono, forums and ebay, so buying direct is then less of an issues I guess.

It's sort if like a seeing a listed home with a realtor, and then buying it directly to cut out their commission. (not possible to do legally anymore but it once happened)

Well on eBay you can sell and use local pickup which is meeting up with the buyer in person. Transaction though happens on the platform. I’m assuming if you transact on Chrono24 and pickup in person that’s within policy.

Where it gets weird is if you google a certain watch, it may come up on Chrono and on say WatchBox and eBay. Same watch and pictures, and I guess you can choose which place to buy it.

And going through an online WatchBox purchase then neither eBay or Chrono would get commission.

It appears to me that a lot of the sellers on Chrono24 have a brick and mortar store, I don't see any problem contacting them to view at the store, and I would expect the item could be bought cheaper on site.

I have done a successful deal with a private seller from chrono24, we arranged for a meet up and we had a nice chart, and finally I made the purchase...I believe you guys agree.
