How much of my "wish list" do I share with my AD

What are your opinions/experiences on sharing your full wish list (4-5 pieces) vs. your #1 most wanted piece with your AD?

I would tell your AD all of the watches on the list, but really make press that you want X watch most. When someone walks in and says, "I will take any SS watch" the AD probably rolls their eyes.

I would say my whole list would be considered "hype" pieces (what in the line up isn't these days)--all SS. But there is 1 in particular that is most important to me (GMT II BLRO).

I would start with the easiest one to get first (e.g., a black sub) then work yourself up from there.

I went in to get on the “list” for an OP 41 blue. When I walked in they had the watch in the case! We just brought this out she said. I was not in the spot to buy as I just purchased my parents a furnace that week. I was up front and said probably not today. They gave me till end of business to make a final decision. When I called and emailed letting them know timing was really bad she told me no problem at all. Let me know when your ready and I will work my hardest to get it for you.

I was blown away by the costumer service as this was my first time in the store.
I know who my AD will be!

What is a WoS? If I don’t know I’m assuming it was not.

Have you bought anything from them before?

If not, sharing a wishlist in this market isn't going to do you much good in general (unless its a DJ).

And if you do share the list, if the AD shows up and says I have the 5th or 6th piece on your list available, are you going to buy them right away or are you going to hold out for something higher on your list? At that point you might have wasted your own time or your ADs.

I say, share what you are committed to buy on the spot. Everything else is just talk. Whether you get the opportunity will be in the hands of the AD.

I agree with this 100%. I told mine (in Houston before I moved) a long list. I also bought #4 and #5 without hesitation when they were offered, and I ended up being able to buy #1.

I'll be making my first purchase with them today. Its WoS in Soho and the piece I'm purchasing (Grand Seiko) still leaves me as a goldfish in an ocean for that market. That said, if any of the 4 on my list were to become available I would buy it without hesitation (ideally at a pace of 2 watches per year).

In order of priority my list is:

- BLRO
- Daytona, White, Ceramic (I know impossible, but one can dream)
- BLNR
- "New" Hulk

I already have a ND Sub & Bluesy in the collection. Not much else in the line up interests me until getting into a few gold pieces, but I'm not ready to act on those just yet if one were to come up.

Congrats, I think buying a GS would help with getting a good entry level specialty piece rolex like a sub, OP41, or CHNR TT. (if those are on your list)

But since you'll have purchase history, I say share your whole list. You never know.

GS is a start

but i don't think a GS will make much ground on the pieces you want, particuarly in the order you listed.

MAYBE..... it might put you closer to BLNR, but the other ones i'd forget about. hate to be blunt. just realistic in this environment

Then you might have your answer. I'm just thinking on the perspective if they did call you with one of those pieces and you weren't in the position to buy it might be counter intuitive.

I would likely hold off on giving them a full list, but hey if you want to throw the BLRO there might as well try.

In Las Vegas you'd be at $150-250K "relationship" to get all of those. $75-80K buys them all right now.

I would maybe spread it out. If your wish list is a Sub/Pepsi/Daytona/Sky-Dweller I probably wouldn’t share that with them if you don’t have any trust built up with them. If it’s something like DJ/Sub/Op/Pepsi/AK then I would share that with them. Personally, I work with 3 ADs and all of them know I have an interest in OP’s and a Pepsi. I kind of shifted away from the OP since I have one and will begin expressing interest in an Explorer I or maybe a Milgauss. I don’t want to express interest in too much because I don’t want to come off as a flipper

Had zero relationship with my current AD. Gave them a long list of the models I was looking for. First watch offered was a DJ41, blue stick, second was a Milgaus Z-Blue, third a Sub Date, fourth an OP41 incoming. As with developing any relationship, you are not going to start at the front of the line. Start small and work your way up.

I'm very fortunate to deal with the owner of my AD and she knows, and has helped form, my ideal 6 watch collection going forward (all hard to get pieces). I'd imagine that's unique though.

Depending on your presentation, you could come across as a flipper. Handle with care.

Very fortunate as well. Basically, told my AD the watches I was looking for and over the next, 3 plus years, they got me everyone............all SS Sport/Professional Models with the exception of a TT Rootbeer.

I would ask for one specific piece and focus most of your efforts on that one piece. I think you’re much more likely for your AD to think of you when the piece comes in. That had mostly worked for me. I don’t think I’ve ever received an unsolicited call for a random watch but I’ve been able to get most of what I want by identifying what’s “next” for me.

My general advice is to list the easiest to acquire and the hardest or “grail.” This way you have exposed a range and anything that falls in between you may get a call for, or after a relationship is built then you can request in addition.

You’re likely right, but one can hope they are an exception to the rule. I’m a big fan of the GS, so this is just a shot in the dark to see if I can get some traction with an AD.

All my other pieces have been from the grey market to date.
